Cedar Rapids, IA---Cedar Brewing Company's Oktoberfest Ale is on tap
starting today. Oktoberfest Ale was first introduced in September 1996,
and was brought back in March 1997 as Marzen. It is different from most
Oktoberfest beers in that it is an ale instead of a lager. At about 3.8%
alcohol by weight, it contains about 40% German Munich malt which gives it
a very satisfying dry toasted malt finish.
Oktoberfest is a Bavarian festival that originated in 1810 as a 16 day
wedding reception for the Bavarian Prince Ludwig and Princess Theresa. The
current Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany starts during the last week of
September and lasts for two weeks. With several huge tents sponsored by
various breweries spanning several acres, it is the largest festival of
it's kind in the world. The tradition has carried on throughout the world
where most breweries brew their own style of Oktoberfest and serve it
during the traditional months of September and October.
The Cedar Brewing Company, 500 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA was
founded in February 1996 as the first establishment where beer was
commercially brewed in Cedar Rapids since the Magnus Brewing Company
closed its doors due to prohibition in 1917. Under the new ownership of
Rebecca Mumaw Smith and Bradley W. Smith, they continue the Cedar Brewing
legacy of providing superior microbrews, high quality food and a unique
customer experience. Brew Master, Mike Snyder, continues to handcraft the
many ales that are the signature of Cedar Brewing Company.
The restaurant seats approximately 150 and provides a variety of freshly
grilled foods, dry-rub, slow smoked BBQ ribs, specialty pastas,
appetizers, soups, salads and daily specials. In addition to the four main
ales on tap, several seasonal brews are also featured. While enjoying the
food, drink and socializing, customers can test their brainpower with the
National Trivia Network (NTN) or enjoy watching a favorite sporting event
on one of the 17televisions.
