Andrew Cohen Speaks in NYC on the Next Step of Human Evolution

Innovative spiritual teacher merges evolutionary science and religion, creating a new spiritual context for the 21st century

New York (PRWEB) April 14, 2005 -- Andrew Cohen, spiritual teacher and founder of What Is Enlightenment? magazine will speak at Voices from the Edge international speakers forum on April 20, 2005, at 7:30 PM. His talk will explore the vast evolutionary context for human development and how, for the first time, we are in a position to consciously participate in the evolution of our own consciousness.

The talk, entitled A Passion for Evolution: Embracing Life's Greater Purpose," will take place at The Lighthouse, 111 East 59th Street (btw. Lexington & Park), New York, NY. Tickets are available online $22 (recommended), and at the door $25 (cost includes reception). To order tickets log on to www.wie.org/Voices/nyc or call 212-741-9940.

Cohen, known for his pioneering interfaith and interdisciplinary inquiry, has been marrying wisdom from spiritual revelation with understanding gleaned from cultural and scientific evolutionary thinking for almost twenty years. In this talk, as part of Voices' series on evolutionary thinkers, he will explore what the nature of consciousness is, what it means to evolve human consciousness, and why it is so important that we do so at this historical juncture.

Cohen founded the Voices from the Edge speakers forum in 2004 to present the work of leading thinkers to public audiences and to create a nexus for engaged inquiry. Through Voices from the Edge," he explains, we want to help create the future by trying to expand and deepen the context in which the leading edges of thinking in many different arenas are taking place. It is our firm conviction that through the practice of sincere inquiry, of honest dialogue together, we can discover new perspectives that will enable all of us to make much greater sense of our shared human experience at this pivotal time in our development."

Cohens talk comes in the middle of Voices spring 2005 schedule, following systems theorist Dr. Ervin Laszlo, evolutionary cosmologist Brian Swimme, religion and ecology expert Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker, and evolutionary evangelist Rev. Michael Dowd, and precedes talks on cultural evolution next month with Harpers writer Thomas de Zengotita and NPR commentator Andrei Codrescu.

Cohens unique contribution to the Voices series is his emphasis on placing spiritual transformation at the heart of a growing body of evolutionary thinking that is aspiring to catalyze significant cultural and human development.

"Andrew Cohen has arrived at an insight that is crucial for our historical situation. Rarely have I encountered such simple, searing wisdom connecting religious ideas about enlightenment with the scientific understanding of an evolutionary cosmos."
~ Brian Swimme, Evolutioanry Cosmologist & author of The Universe Story
