Joe Power, Prominent Illinois Truck Accident Lawyer, Named a "Real Hero" in Chicago Sun-Times

Rev. Willis discusses the difficulties Joe Power and his team of Illinois truck accident lawyers faced while pursuing his truck accident lawsuit and settlement.

(PRWEB) April 3, 2006 -- Rev. Duane “Scott” Willis, who lost six children in an accident in 1994, named Joseph A. Power, Jr., the Illinois truck accident lawyer in a civil case that helped bring down Illinois Governor George Ryan, a "real hero", during an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times.

The tragic truck accident occurred in Wisconsin when Rev. Willis, while driving with his family, struck a piece of debris that was lying in the roadway. The debris turned out to be a mud flap/taillight assembly that detached from a truck's chassis and became lodged in the van's gas tank. The impact caused an explosion and a fire in which Rev. Willis’ six children perished.

Mr. Power, after doing a thorough investigation into the truck accident, discovered that the non-English speaking truck driver received his license only as a result of a bribe. With many obstacles in front of him and with much vilification from the government and the press, Mr. Power pressed on with his attempt to air the truth, fueling what eventually became a massive investigation into a license-for-bribes scandal that reached all the way up to the Illinois’ secretary of state’s and the former Governor George Ryan’s offices.

The investigation led to more than 70 convictions of former state officials, truckers, driving instructors and political figures and, most notably, caused the indictment of former Illinois Governor George Ryan. Governor Ryan is currently awaiting a verdict in his fraud and racketeering case.

“He was right on. He was vilified. And he took the heat for us. He’s a hero,” Rev. Willis was quoted in the Chicago Sun-Times referring to Mr. Power’s struggle to expose the injustice.

In the Willises’ truck accident lawsuit, Mr. Power, one of Illinois’ most influential and successful truck accident lawyers, secured the largest personal injury, single-family settlement in Illinois history - $100 million.
