Angela Shelton: A Model on a Mission
Out-spoken international model and award-winning filmmaker is on a mission
(PRWEB) September 28, 2006 -- Angela Shelton is no commonplace pretty face. With a successful modeling career and some award-winning movies under her Prada belt, she's now a woman on a mission and people are paying attention.
While modeling in Paris at age 20, Shelton penned the novel that she adapted into the highly-acclaimed movie, "Tumbleweeds", a poignant, alarming but nonetheless charming portrayal of her experiences growing up with an eccentric mother. Following the film's Best Actress Oscar nomination for Janet McTeer, Shelton then turned the camera on herself in the multiple-award-winning documentary, "Searching for Angela Shelton".
With the intent of humorously surveying women in America, the movie documents Angela's journey across the U.S. to meet and interview other Angela Sheltons. She soon discovers that 70% of the 40 Angelas interviewed have been victims of rape, childhood sexual abuse or domestic violence and is forced to not only face some less-than-humorous issues but also her own past.
The movie has become internationally recognized for the unusually inspiring and uplifting nature of its message and has created a global movement of healing for survivors of abuse of all genders.
"Angela Shelton is amazing. She speaks for every abused person who has lived through the same hell." states Rosie O'Donnell
On top of being an international public speaker, Angela has also completed two books and a new film script and is the superhero, "Safe Side Superchick", who teaches children how to be safe in the "Safe Side" video series created by Baby Einstein creator, Julie Clark, and "America's Most Wanted" creator, John Walsh.
Deemed a hero among survivors of trauma, Angela recently created a registered non-profit Foundation with the mission of inspiring and empowering survivors of abuse to heal and lead joyful lives. She also launched a personal website with multiple weekly-updated inspirational videos focused on healing and personal transformation. All of the videos on the site, including those of her public speaking engagements, are freely accessible to all visitors at no cost.
"By healing and learning to love and respect ourselves we break the cycles of abuse; self-abuse, abuse of others and abuse of the planet itself," Angela explains.
With a special performance following the acclaimed production of "The Playground" this week in LA, Shelton cuts past the niceties and gets straight to the point; "Pedophiles are organized. They have networks and they have clubs and they are getting rich on child pornography. They are not strangers; they are judges, lawyers, doctors, police officers, elected officials and our friends; and the offenders are not only men… Sorry if I'm putting a damper on your day," she says with a charming smile, "but I know the survivors; I've seen the scars; I've heard the stories and I will no longer be silent." And then she begins to dance.
