OrigiNation's 'Twist & Shout' To Rock Boston in Concert with Full Dance Company

Event’s Production Comprising Dance, Spoken Word and Music Will Benefit Cultural Arts Center.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 4, 2006 -- OrigiNation Inc., the Roxbury-based theatre arts and dance troupe whose tag line is ‘the nation that caters to youth’ delivers a robust concert and fundraiser featuring its array of troupes including the NIA Dance Troupe, Girlz of IMANI, IMANI Jr., Aleye Boyz Troupe, and spoken word artist Omekongo Dibinga (aka Mr. Culture). The concert and fundraiser will take place Saturday, October 7, 2006, at the Mainstage Theater in Roxbury, Massachusetts located at Roxbury Community College’s Media Arts Center. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., for VIP reception and 8:00 p.m. for the performance.

”We are truly excited about the phenomenal choreography and spoken word that will be presented at this performance. The audience is about to be rocked by Boston’s best and talented dancers and poets,” said Shaumba-Yandje Dibinga, founder and executive director of OrigiNation.
For example, ‘Twist & Shout’ presents a rare opportunity to view a unique blend of audience favorites such as ‘Rise Up’ and ‘Last Night’ by the NIA dance troupe, along with the premiere of the ballet ‘Ignition’ a compilation of three separate dance sets by the entire youth companies, one of which featuring ‘Mr. Culture’ who will accompany the set with a rich and forceful mix of spoken word along with the music of Bomani Armah.

“Ignition is bound to get the musical and poetic juices flowing,” said Mr. Culture. “I was able to work with Mr. Armah and find just the right beat and tone to set my lyric in motion in an explosive and hip style everybody both young and older will be able to resonate with. To be able to combine my work with OrigiNation’s ballet really provides another dimension to the performing arts,” he added.

An honoree of the concert and fundraising event will be the Smith Leadership Academy, a college preparatory middle school in Boston that largely serves inner-city youth and successfully immerses students into a rigorous academic curriculum.

OrigiNation executive director Shaumba-Yandje Dibinga hopes audiences who enjoy dance performances and spoken word will come away with a renewed appreciation for these performances and continue supporting them in the years ahead. “Really, ‘Twist & Shout’ is about expression and storytelling in two of the most honest forms or expression—dance and spoken word. And I have no doubt audiences of every back ground and experience will be blown away by what they see and hear,” Dibinga said.

Founded in 1994, OrigiNation, Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that specializes in implementing innovative and dynamic programs, which motivate, challenge, and inspire youth to be the best they can be.
