Five-Axis Production Machining To Be Demonstrated At Autosport By Hemlock Engineering

A CAD to CAM and five-axis machining demonstration will be made by Hemlock Engineering at Autosport Engineering Exhibition.

(PRWEB) October 11, 2006 -- An important demonstration of five-axis machining using a high speed 42,000 revs/min vertical machining centre with full solid model CAD to CAM design for manufacture and programming is to be staged by precision subcontract specialist Hemlock Engineering at the Autosport Engineering exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham.

Hemlock Engineering has invested over £1 million in its five-axis production machining operation at Stapleford, Nottingham centred on two Mikron XSM 600 U high speed vertical machining centres and the latest version of Open Minds HyperMILL/HyperCAD GSM software and SolidWorks and SolidCAM programming software. The service, under 3-D machining specialist Nick Marks, provides a one-hit strategy enabling five faces of a component to be machined in a single cycle. As a result, higher accuracy and close feature relationships can be maintained with reduced door to door lead time.

Projects to the autosport industry have involved in-depth consultancy providing a design for manufacture service, prototype, pre-production and small and large batch machining. By machining aluminium parts out of solid, for instance, the need for castings is eliminated and the class of machine tool and software being used ensures high orders of quality and most important consistency are maintained.

The demonstration at Autosport will involve a high speed 42,000 revs/min Mikron HSM 400 vertical machining centre with five-axis simultaneous positioning. As with the Hemlock Engineering machining operation, Open Minds software will be used on the stand. Nick Marks will be available to discuss machining strategy and Paul Cobb managing director, the services available from the Hemlock Group.
