wikiFido.com Launches Halloween Costume Contest for Dogs
Dog owners can win prizes and donations to their favorite dog rescue organization.
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) October 16, 2006 -- wikiFido.com, the online dog lover’s guide to dogs and dog rescue, announced today that it is hosting its first Halloween Costume Contest for Dogs. The wikiFido website, powered by Wetpaint, is inviting dog owners to submit pictures of their dog dressed up for Halloween. The most creative costume will receive a $50 gift certificate to Pet Food Direct (www.petfooddirect.com) and a $50 donation in his or her name to an animal rescue organization of their choice. The runner-up will receive a $25 Pet Food Direct gift certificate and a $25 donation to a dog rescue organization of his or her choice. Both dogs’ pictures will be featured prominently on the wikiFido home page.
“wikiFido is a website created by people who are enthusiastic about dogs and passionate about dog rescue -- anyone can contribute," said Heidi Schuessler, one of the first contributors to the site. “There’s a wealth of information there including an exclusive interview with celebrity dog trainer, Cesar Millan a.k.a. The Dog Whisperer.”
Contest Details
Proud dog owners can easily add photos of their dogs on the “Halloween Dog Pictures” page at wikiFido.com. Pictures submitted before midnight (PST) November 2, 2006, will be eligible for the contest. A select group of wikiFido users will judge the field of entrants and award prizes on November 3. The two winners will be notified by email so all contestants must first register for a free account before posting their photos. (Existing wikiFido members must be signed in to the site to participate.)
Exciting New Content
Thanks to its active audience of impassioned dog owners and rescuers, wikiFido includes a wealth of great dog content. Some recently added or ever-growing content includes:
-Cesar Millan Interview: an exclusive interview with celebrated dog trainer Cesar Millan, a.k.a. the Dog Whisperer, who offers tips on how to introduce a new baby into a household with a dog.
-Dog Breed Guide: Readers can find a comprehensive pictorial guide to all officially recognized dog breeds on the page “Dog Breeds A-Z.”
-Celebrity Dog Owners: pictures and profiles of celebrity dog owners and their beloved pets.
-City Guides: The website includes growing city guides for the United States and Canada in which readers have listed their favorite dog-friendly hotels, restaurants, businesses, shelters, grooming, and healthcare services and outdoor activities.
How It Works
Anyone who visits the wikiFido community can add their own experiences and perspectives about dog training, dog care, dog breeds, and more. In addition to hosting hundreds of ever-growing pages with great information about dogs and dog rescue, the site also invites readers to create their own page to tell their dog’s story in words, blog entries, photos or videos. Because the user-friendly Wetpaint platform makes adding content to the website easy, there are already hundreds of dogs on wikiFido and more are added every day from around the world.
