Bay Area Dairy Launches First U.S. Full Dairy Line with Omega-3 Fish Oil

Hayward, California dairy launches first full dairy line (milk, cheese, yogurt, orange juice) with omega-3 fish oil.

Hayward, Calif. (PRWEB) October 15, 2006 -- Omega Farms has launched the first full line of dairy products with all-natural omega-3s, the fatty acids vital to good health and well-being. Now consumers can easily and conveniently obtain two of the most beneficial omega-3 fatty acids—EPA and DHA—while receiving the nutritional benefits of high-quality dairy products, including calcium, protein and essential vitamins and minerals.

Omega Farms’ all natural, delicious and nutritious line of products includes One percent and Two percent Milk with Omega-3s, Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses with Omega-3s, and probiotic, nonfat yogurt with Omega-3s, including Peach, Strawberry, Vanilla and Plain varieties. Calcium fortified Orange Juice with Omega3s, chocolate milk and half percent milk with Omega-3s will be available soon.

Omega-3s are polyunsaturated fatty acids critical to good health, but are not produced by the body and must be obtained from the diet. Two of the most important omega-3s are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) found in oily, cold-water fish. Widespread concerns about contaminants in fish, have led many people, especially women, to sharply reduce their already low consumption of fish. As a result, some experts warn that 80% of people do not get enough omega-3s in their diet.

Omega-3s are especially important for Moms-to-be and children. Studies show that children of women who do not consume adequate amounts of omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy had verbal IQ’s six points lower than average. High intakes of omega-3s have been associated with better brain function, improved learning, decreased hyperactivity and reduced symptoms of depression and asthma. With Omega Farms, now mothers can give their kids omega 3s through convenient daily consumption of delicious dairy products.

“First and foremost, Omega Farms is about great taste, says Nutritionist Cindy DiFerdinand of Omega Farms. “By adding omega-3s, we are simply making our dairy line even more beneficial to the consumer who gets all the rich, creamy taste along with the benefits of both dairy and omega-3s. And Mom’s will be happy to know that they are giving their kids a nutritional advantage.”
Omega Farms products offer all the benefits of omega-3s without contaminant concerns or sacrificing delicious taste. Omega Farms’ all-natural Omega-3 is derived from purified cod oil from fish in Norwegian Arctic waters. It is the most pure, potent and direct source of omega-3. The omega-3 oil is gently extracted, purified and filtered by Denomega Nutritional Oils without the use of chemical solvents, and meets the U.S. standards for use in certified organic foods. It is used exclusively by Omega Farms for key dairy products in the U.S.And, of obvious importance to consumers, the oil is 100% odorless and undetectable to the palate. Each serving of Omega Farms products provides 75 mg of EPA and DHA. (Other omega-3s such as ALA, alpha-linolenic acid, must be converted to EPA and DHA in the body, a process known to be uncertain and inefficient.)

The health benefits of Omega-3s are well documented. Studies show they play an important role in the body, from reducing the risk for coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease, to reducing the risk or progression of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Studies have also suggested that omega-3s help maintain visual and mental function and help reduce joint pain associated with arthritis. Omega-3s are also used to treat depression and bipolar disorder. Omega Farms dairy products are made with grade A homogenized, pasteurized milk from cows not treated with the growth hormone rBST.
