Camp Bow Wow® Adds Re- 'Tail' to Its Business Model: Retail Offerings Make for One-Stop Shop

Camp Bow Wow, who recently announced its 150th franchise sold and is the largest dog day and overnight care franchise in North America, today announced that it is expanding its stores to include a retail shop at selected locations. The addition of everyday and unique retail items to the Camp Bow Wow stores will make Camp Bow Wow a one-stop shop for pet parents. The first retail expansion has been launched at the Camp Bow Wow location in Boulder and will roll out across the country over the next few months.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) November 2, 2006 -- Camp Bow Wow, who recently announced its 150th franchise sold and is the largest dog day and overnight care franchise in North America, today announced that it is expanding its stores to include a retail shop at selected locations. The addition of everyday and unique retail items to the Camp Bow Wow stores will make Camp Bow Wow a one-stop shop for pet parents. The first retail expansion has been launched at the Camp Bow Wow location in Boulder and will roll out across the country over the next few months.

"Adding retail to Camp Bow Wow is a logical extension of our business. Our clients lead busy lives, so having a store in the camps provides a convenient and fun way to make purchases without running extra errands," said Heidi Flammang, Top Dog and CEO of Camp Bow Wow. "Listening to our customers, we have developed a core set of camp-themed products that meet their pet parenting needs with the highest quality items on the market."

Camp Bow Wow will be utilizing its large lobbies to introduce retail shops offering a variety of products, including:

  • Plush and chew toys
  • Beds and blankets
  • Gourmet natural treats
  • All natural dog food
  • Leashes and collars
  • Harnesses and accessories
  • Weekend feed bags
  • Travel bowls
  • Shampoo
  • Unique gifts
  • And popular dog-loving apparel for parents!

Camp Bow Wow's addition of retail to its already rapidly expanding day and overnight care services taps into an accelerating trend in the industry. Nationally, the average pet owner spends about $2,100 a year their dog, according to a 2005 survey by the APPMA. Among the fastest growing segments are services and supplies, where spending reached $11.2 billion in 2005. Camp Bow Wow's retail will cater to not only convenience, but the overall trend in pet pampering. APPMA's National Pet Owners Survey shows 27 percent of dog parents buy their pets birthday presents, and 55 percent of dog parents buy their pet holiday presents.

"With the growth in baby boomer and empty-nester populations, and more people delaying marriage and children, many pet parents have elevated the place that dogs have in their lives and that is turning into more expenditures on food, toys and daycare," continued Flammang.

In what has become a $500 million industry, doggy day care has been primarily a mom and pop business. While maintaining the feel of a mom and pop, Camp Bow Wow has advanced and standardized the model into what is the most sophisticated dog day and overnight care operation in the country. Utilizing technology, state-of-the-art facility design, and intensive employee training, all in a camp-like setting, Camp Bow Wows are operationally the best run and safest environments for dogs.

Camp Bow Wow
Camp Bow Wow is the premiere doggy day care and overnight camp in North America. It is designed to provide the highest levels of fun, safety and service for its campers, and peace of mind for their parents.
