InsideFilms Takes Spec Graphic Novel "Low Grounds," Adapts for Film
InsideFilms takes spec graphic novel "Low Grounds" and adapts for film.
(PRWEB) June 6, 2007 -- InsideFilms has taken the graphic novel "Low Grounds" and is making it into a film. Currently in pre-production "Low Grounds" has attached John Shea and Billy Drago to star in this supernatural thriller. A dark post punk rock driven trilogy that is scheduled to start lensing before the year is out.
Also attached to the film is Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke. Who has agreed to do the score for this music driven thriller. Coleman, while well known as the mastermind behind Killing Joke is also famous for his symphonic masterpieces and will be adding an amazing musical layer that is all to often missed in indie filmmaking.
The story takes place in an old industrial town in the early eighties. It's seen through the eyes of high school drop out, an intern at a theater that is set to be torn down to make way for a mall. The theater's nervy director, insists that mounting 'Orpheus of the Underworld', considered cursed by older staff members, is a good idea and could save them all with press coverage but instead kicks off an unfortunate chain of events. With a full house on opening night, ancient Greek verses are unwittingly spoken and to everyone's total horror, a portal to the underworld is torn open, claiming the soul of one of the actors as their body collapses on the stage. With the intern finding a way to access the portal it begins to break at its archaic roots and legions of lost souls rally to escape from their eternal 'Low Grounds' confinement.
Shooting is scheduled to begin later this year and will be shot on location in Poland. Director Simon Veredon has set the wheels in motion to shoot the first one in 2007 with films 2 & 3 to follow in 2008. Veredon who has had his most recent film "In a Different Key" over at Cannes in the film market is excited about stepping into such a spine-tingling thriller. When asked about the premise and intensity of the film Veredon didn't mince words, "I researched Orpheus, Dante's Inferno and eastern philosophy teacher Meher Baba to base the premise for 'Low Grounds' on a cross section of world mythology. I then wanted to explore this premise through the eyes of a 20 year old high school drop out, steeped in post punk culture."
InsideFilms is an independent production company in Los Angeles that was founded in 2006 during the post-production of IN A DIFFERENT KEY. In an unusual move for an indie film Veredon and InsideFilms have partnered up with record label Long Live Crime Records during pre-production. It will allow both companies to participate in the creative process of creating the ultimate super-natural thriller.
