PlentyofFish Selected For New Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program

PlentyofFish has been chosen to join the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program, designed to connect high-potential startups to an extensive support network that provides access to Microsoft people and programs, guidance on future directions, and support to accelerate their success.

Vancouver, CA (PRWEB) January 23, 2008 -- PlentyofFish Media Inc., one of the top ten dating websites in the world, today announced that it has been chosen to join the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program. Stewarded by the Emerging Business Team (EBT) at Microsoft Corp., the program is designed to connect high-potential startups such as PlentyofFish to an extensive support network that provides access to Microsoft people and programs, guidance on future directions, and support to accelerate their success.

"I'm proud of and amazed by what I've accomplished to date with PlentyofFish.com," commented PlentyofFish CEO Markus Frind. "Combining very limited resources with a limitless vision, I've made PlentyofFish one of the biggest dating web sites in the world. This acknowledgement of PlentyofFish's continuing growth potential by an industry giant such as Microsoft is a huge compliment and an amazing honor. And hopefully one of the most enduring relationships generated by our dating website."

Companies like PlentyofFish Media were selected by Microsoft for the program based on their innovation, marketability, growth potential, funding, platform decision and strategic importance to Microsoft. These companies receive customized engagement plans designed to support their software development and increase market visibility.

"The Microsoft EBT evaluates hundreds of technology startups each year to identify those with the strongest potential to succeed in the market, shape the industry's future, and enhance the overall value of Microsoft products and services for consumers," said Beti Cung, Portfolio Manager, Emerging Business Team at Microsoft Corp. "PlentyofFish fulfills all of these requirements. We are happy to work with Markus and welcome the company to the Microsoft Startup Accelerator Program."

PlentyofFish was created in 2003 by CEO Frind as a way to teach himself asp.net. Since then, it has mushroomed into one of the major dating sites worldwide, with one of the most active memberships. Unlike most online dating sites, it does not charge its members a fee but supports itself with advertising revenue. It is currently the number one dating website in Canada (Comscore Mediametrix 11/07), the number two dating website in the U.S. (Hitwise 11/07), and number one in the UK (Hitwise 11/07).

About PlentyofFish:
PlentyofFish generates over 300,000 relationships a year in the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The site is free and gets on average 1 billion page views per month. At any given hour, there are 50,000 active sessions and two million page views. Members of the site pursue friendships, dating and intimate encounters. Founder and CEO Markus Frind still runs the website personally from his apartment with no employees.
