Former FCC Chairman Appointed to the Board at Rivada Networks
Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- Rivada Networks is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark S. Fowler, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”), to the company’s board of directors.
Mr. Fowler served as chairman of the FCC under President Reagan, from 1981-1987, and is its longest serving chairman. Mr. Fowler’s pioneering work to deregulate telecommunications is widely credited with creating the conditions which encouraged the dramatic growth and innovation in the sector over the past three decades.
Fowler was Senior Communications Counsel at the law firm of Latham & Watkins from 1987 to 1994. Thereafter he co-founded several startup telecommunications companies and has served on the board of directors of Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc., Naples, Florida, a 44 radio station group licensee, from 2000 to the present.
Commenting on Mr. Fowler’s appointment, Declan J. Ganley, Chairman and CEO of Rivada Networks said: “Mark’s appointment is hugely beneficial to Rivada. He brings to our company extensive legal, regulatory, and business startup knowledge. As the company continues to grow and expand into new markets, Mark’s knowledge and experience will be invaluable as Rivada continues the development of technologies to make our world safer and provide our emergency services and first responders with the critical communications tools they need.”
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Fowler said: “Rivada’s public safety communications offerings and innovative technologies promise to dramatically improve public safety communications, especially its patented Dynamic Spectrum Arbitrage system. This technology will enable the federally mandated nationwide wireless public safety broadband network, FirstNet, to monetize its 20 MHz spectrum allocation in real time to private sector users, subject to “ruthless preemption” when needed by public safety. In this unique way, Rivada can contribute to the duty of government to protect and strengthen a free society. It’s a noble cause, and I am pleased to be a part of it.”
Rivada Networks is a market leader in the provision of interoperable public safety communications networks. It provides advanced communications solutions to the public safety community, as well as communications responders in the aftermath of hurricanes, tornadoes, and terrorist threats. Rivada customers consist of a diverse range of federal, state, and local agencies, including the U.S. Northern Command, the National Guard Bureau and the Department of Homeland Security.
