Teacher Preparation Takes the Spotlight as Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) President, Dr. James Cibulka, Chats with Core of Education
(PRWEB) November 05, 2013 -- The Core of Education digs into teacher preparation with Dr. James Cibulka, President of Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), in a brand new podcast. Dr. Cibulka and Dr. Berger cover a range of topics including the perception of educators in America, the time teachers stay in their careers, what's driving teacher preparation reform across the country and much more. Also discussed is the rationale behind the changes and how teacher unions have played a role in the overall development.
The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) advances excellent educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement to strengthen P-12 student learning. CAEP's accreditation is a nongovernmental activity based on peer review that serves the dual functions of assuring quality and promoting improvement. CAEP serves all providers currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).
Dr. Berger spoke to the interview stating, "I truly believe that Dr. Cibulka's work to increase educator support and improve teacher preparation is essential to reforming our education system." He continued, “CAEP's reform initiatives are poised to alter the way we think about teacher preparation.”
High points of the interview included Dr. Cibulka's assessment of the new standards and performance reporting that's driving reform for teacher preparation programs, a discussion of the motivation behind the changes, the perception of teaching in the U.S. and the changes that need to be made to keep teachers from leaving their positions.
