Impact on Cyber Monday which may be due to NatWest and RBS banking glitch
Conversion rate Black Friday 2013 and Cyber Monday 2013: -5%
This year more consumers flocked online than ever before after they received their last pay packet before Christmas.
Online traffic peaked on Cyber Monday in comparison to the same time last year; consumers remained consistent on budget as average order value stayed the same at £43. Conversion rates were slightly up on last year however retailers could have seen a much higher increase if it wasn’t for the NatWest banking glitch which saw conversions plummet by 5% compared to Black Friday this year.
Whilst consumers were spoilt for choice this year, their reliance on product recommendations reached a new high.
Last year retailers saw another peak on Monday 10th December 2012 (1 week after Cyber Monday) and Peerius expect this to follow the same trend, especially due to the recent banking issues which saw millions of shoppers unable to pay for transactions using their credit or debit cards.
Mobile dominates Cyber Monday
This year more purchases were made online using smart phones and other mobile devices on Black Friday and Cyber Monday than ever before. Data from Peerius retail clients shows a 55% increase in traffic compared to the same time last year.
"Today we can confirm Cyber Monday was the biggest day ever for online traffic. However we expect to see another peak next week due to the NatWest banking glitches and Cyber Monday falling early this year" commented Roger Brown, CEO at Peerius.
Roger continued "With mobile traffic reaching new highs, Retailers need to ensure they offer each individual customer a seamless personalised shopping experience across all channels. Effective use of personalisation will see these retailers leading the way for Christmas 2013".
And finally some interesting facts for you…
It looks like us Brits are set to escape the predicted big freeze, with sales for Bikinis up by 21%. Oh and as for your Christmas stockings, don’t worry Dad’s, sales for socks were down by 25% so you may be in for a treat this year!
