Yourwellness Magazine Follows up Weight Loss Surgery Study
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 9 July 2013 -- According to a new study, published in the June 5th edition of Journal of the American Medical Association, the benefits of weight-loss surgery generally outweigh the risks of the procedure, regardless how obese the patient is. Until now, it was thought this was only the case for extremely obese patients, but the new research suggests that, for those who are mildly or moderately obese, weight-loss surgery can improve type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol more effectively than conventional diabetes management and lifestyle changes.
Dr. Melinda Maggard-Gibbons, lead review author, and an associate professor with RAND Health in Santa Monica, California, commented, “I think we found some promising results for the lower BMI patients with diabetes. There were better results in terms of controlling glucose [blood sugar] and weight loss over one to two years. That we have a way to provide some sort of successful treatment is exciting. But, we don't yet know how sustainable these changes are. We need longer and larger studies.” (http://healthfinder.gov/News/Article/677074/weight-loss-surgery-may-help-moderately-obese-too)
With this in mind, Yourwellness Magazine explored the reasons behind the recent epidemics of obesity and diabetes. According to Yourwellness Magazine, “Around 188,000 years ago, our species left Neanderthal man behind to become Homo Sapiens. Since that time, our genetic make up has changed by only 0.5%. For 187,900 of the years since then, our diet was essentially the same. However, in just the last 100 years the food that we eat has changed beyond all recognition and when you plot this change against the human evolutionary timeline and the explosion of obesity and diabetes it becomes glaringly obvious where the problem lies.”
Yourwellness explained that the more food is processed and artificially changed, the further away from the original raw ingredients it becomes, the less nourishing it is and the more alien it becomes to human bodies. Yourwellness Magazine noted a need to look again at the food manufacturing industry and start regarding what it produces for human consumption with a new perspective. Yourwellness Magazine noted that the manufacturing process reduces the goodness in food whilst increasing the profits for the manufacturers.
