Baltimore MMA School, Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Hosts Muay Thai Kickboxing Test
Elkridge, MD (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- This past Sunday, June 30th, was an important day for Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and its students, when the academy, based in Elkridge, Maryland, hosted its second Level 1 Muay Thai test of 2013.
Muay Thai Kickboxing, sometimes called "Thai Boxing", is a martial art that originated in Thailand. This physical and mental discipline is often referred to as "the art of eight limbs" because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins/feet, which makes a full-contact fight very efficient. That same effectiveness has been seen time and time again in popular martial arts events, such as the UFC and K-1 Fighting Championships.
Muay Thai is the primary style of striking that Crazy 88 teaches. In order to assess their skills, students are tested periodically and acknowledged for their proficiency at a given level. For all new/incoming students, Level 1 comes first. Students pursuing the rank of Level 1 are tested on the basic Muay Thai skills that are the foundation for all future advancements within this complex fighting art.
The goal for the instructors is to have every student ready to test their Level 1 skills within 3-4 months. Not everyone progresses at the exact same pace, but those who attend classes consistently and train seriously are always more than ready for the challenge. Students are graded on their comprehension and execution of the techniques taught in the Muay Thai Kickboxing fundamentals training course.
The students who tested on Sunday were assessed on the skills that they have been working on for the past four months. Techniques such as the round kick, knee strike, jab, and right cross punch were all covered, with special attention given to the correct footwork and follow-through. Many of the students came from areas like Baltimore, Laurel and Columbia. Crazy 88 attracts a diverse population of people who are all seeking something in common: 100% genuine Muay Thai Kickboxing.
The results of this weekend’s testing are in: 56% passing rate! These students passed easily, graduating to their new rank of Level 1 in Muay Thai Kickboxing.
Crazy 88 BJJ head instructor Julius Park said that he is "highly impressed" with the ability shown by these up and coming students. He feels like this is the best overall group yet tested, which speaks volumes about the progression of not only these particular students, but the school as a whole. He is eager to see these students take up new challenges and compete in events such as Smokers and move up the ranks.
Park said that in the end, the ideal is for every single student to move steadily up the ladder, with the ultimate goal of one day making it to the top. Time will tell who has what it takes… Crazy 88 wishes them all the best as they continue their quest toward Muay Thai mastery!
