Walker Metalsmiths Redesigns Celtic Jewelry Website
Andover, NY (PRWEB) July 08, 2013 -- Susan Walker announces that the website she has been crafting for the family jewelry business is up and running. WalkersCelticJewelry.com is visually pleasing, user friendly and secure. Walker Metalsmiths is famous for silver and gold Celtic jewelry with an emphasis on work that is both authentic and original. Susan has worked with her son Donald and son-in-law Eric to build the new site.
The site, built with Shopify ® software, is a secure shopping venue that allows customers to directly order with credit cards from the Walkers wide range of designs. Unlike many other websites, Walkers remains committed to personal contact, so a physical address and phone number is posted on every web page. During business hours customers are encouraged to speak with a knowledgeable, live human being if they have questions or need more assistance.
Walker Metalsmiths is based on the craftsmanship and design of Stephen Walker, who has been crafting jewelry and Celtic art since he was a boy in the 1970s. After high school Walker spent several years traveling in Scotland, Ireland and the UK where he found employment as an assistant to an antique dealer, as a dock worker and as a “busker” or street musician, playing his Scottish bagpipe.
The experience of his travels in Celtic lands reinforced a sense of heritage that runs strong in the Walker family. Scottish and Irish ancestry is mirrored in the backgrounds of both Stephen and Susan Walker. This heritage became the inspiration for the company they founded in Andover, NY in 1984.
Walker’s designs were regular award winners at arts festivals in the 1980s and 1990s, winning honors at shows from the Philadelphia Craft Show to the Disney Master’s Festival. In the early 1990s they began marketing their distinctive Celtic rings by mail order, building a successful catalog business with ads in publications such as Smithsonian Magazine.
The Walker’s first website, Celtarts.com, featured a number of articles about Celtic design that have become standard reference sources for historical and symbolic interpretation of Celtic art and design. An article on the History and Symbolism of the Celtic Cross that Stephen Walker wrote in 1996 has been accessed several million times and is still a top search engine return for the keywords “Celtic cross”.
Walker Metalsmiths has two brick and mortar locations, the original studio-workshop at One Main Street in Andover, NY and a second store that was started by Walker’s oldest children Andrew and Jeanne in the Rochester suburb of Fairport, NY.
Each of the Walker’s six children are either currently working for the family business, or have done so in the past. Son-in-law Eric Miller, who is an engineer, has contributed much technical assistance to the new website, as well as son Donald Walker, who is an engineering student at RIT.
Custom rings featuring fine gem stones and intricate Celtic symbols and filigree are a specialty. Walkers can be contacted at 1-800-488-6347. The latest designs and news is regularly posted at https://www.facebook.com/WalkerCelticJewelry.
