Emergency Alert Notification System Built for the 21st Century Launches on Microsoft Windows Azure
Dallas, TX: (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- Dallas-based Pocketstop is a digital marketing firm that specializes in broadcast communications. Recently, the company was approached by one of their largest customers who was looking for a 21st Century Emergency Alert Notification System to replace their current one. The end-result is a highly scalable solution called Red Flag, with a stunning UI, running on Microsoft’s Windows Azure Cloud Computing platform. Red Flag is currently in Preview Mode servicing live customers.
Emergency Alert Notification Systems are not new. In fact, they have been around for quite some time in some form or fashion. From light signals and flares to phones and pagers, Emergency Alert Notification is part of everyday life so, when Pocketstop took a look at the marketplace, the company felt like current solutions lacked sex and sizzle and there was little to no innovation.
“Red Flag makes Emergency Alert Notification stylish,” stated Brian Teague, Chief Technology Evangelist and Co-founder, Pocketstop. Red Flag places a lot of emphasis on not only the Administrator user interface (UI) but also on the Subscriber UI. The UI for both the Administrator and the Subscriber is built for tablet and smartphone devices, making it extremely easy to use, which is a primary consideration when selecting an Emergency Alert Notification System. Not only is the UI stylish but, the sheer nature of an Emergency Alert Notification System means it has to be fast, scalable and always on. To solve for this, Pocketstop looked to Windows Azure.
The Red Flag Emergency Alert Notification System runs on Windows Azure. “Windows Azure is the complete package,” said Tim Ewy, Application Architect, Pocketstop. “Not only do we get access to word-class cloud hosting services but, we can also utilize cloud computing services built to handle large volumes of messages, which is essential for an Emergency Alert Notification System”.
The Red Flag Emergency Alert Notification System is powered by an ASP.net Web API using OData. The Broadcast API supports all the features of Red Flag with emphasis on Emergency Alert Notification distribution and tracking. All Red Flag messages are placed on the Windows Azure Service Bus Queue and Filtered to specific Queues based on the communication medium. Currently, there are Queues for SMS text message, email, IVR and Delivery Notification with plans to add both Facebook and Twitter by end of Q3 2013. The Broadcast API runs as an Azure Web Role and all the data is stored in Windows Azure SQL 2012. Based on the use of Queues, Red Flag can work with any SMS text messaging, email or IVR platform or gateway that has API access, making it plug and play. Moreover, by using Azure, the Red Flag Emergency Alert Notification System can handle any message load and runs uninterrupted in the cloud waiting for the next emergency.
