Esteemed Motorcycle Accident Attorney Jeff Nadrich Comments on New Helmet Safety Study
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 14, 2013 -- A new study by the Highway Loss Data Institute has found a direct correlation between motorcycle injury and helmet use, as reported by the Associated Press. Specifically, the the study reviewed accident trends in Michigan before and after the state revoked its helmet law. Renowned motorcycle accident attorney Jeff Nadrich is unsurprised by the trend.
“Countless studies have proven that helmets save lives,” according to Nadrich, “which is why so many states require them. Helmet use is so important, and there are legal variables that are often overlooked. Aside from the obvious safety benefits, the use of a helmet can have a profound impact on your case if you need to file a personal injury claim. Failure to wear a helmet won't automatically kill your case, but it will almost always be used against you.”
The Highway Loss Data Institute study found that the average insurance payment on a motorcycle injury claim was $5,410 in the two years before the Michigan helmet law was revoked, and $7,257 after the change took effect. That's an increase of 34 percent.
“The cost per injury claim is significantly higher after the law changed than before, which is consistent with other research that shows riding without a helmet leads to more head injuries,” said David Zuby, chief research officer for the data institute and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in an official statement.
Nadrich urges all motorcycle riders to wear a helmet, even if head protection is not required. Nadrich also encourages all motorcycle injury victims to contact a qualified motorcycle lawyer to discuss their legal rights and determine the best course of action. “When you look at the numbers, and the facts in general, there's just no reason not to wear a helmet,” says Nadrich.
