Ashland University to Use Reusable Takeout Containers
Ohio Ashland, Ohio (PRWEB) July 13, 2013 -- Ashland University will become the first business or institution in the state of Ohio to implement the use of a reusable takeout container.
The University has been granted a variance from the Ohio Department of Health’s Food Safety Program to implement the use of reusable G.E.T. Eco Takeout containers beginning this fall.
“Student Senate’s concern about the amount of polystyrene thrown away each year prompted the University to look into new ways of reducing the large amount of non-recyclable materials,” said Matt Portner, director of AU’s auxiliary service.
Portner said these containers will be made available to the students as a green option when ordering their food to-go. Students can purchase a container for the cost of a meal swipe, and then can exchange the used container for a clean one the next time they purchase a to-go meal, he added.
“These reusable containers will be used by Ashland University Dining Services as a way to further the University’s eco-friendly attitude, accompanying the other programs on campus that already promote a green lifestyle,” Portner said.
Ashland University, ranked in the top 200 colleges and universities in U.S. News and World Report’s National Universities category for 2013, is a mid-sized, private university conveniently located a short distance from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. Ashland University (http://www.ashland.edu) values the individual student and offers a unique educational experience that combines the challenge of strong, applied academic programs with a faculty and staff who build nurturing relationships with their students.
