Bali Comes to Costa Rica in Luxury and Style
(PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- Set in the verdant rainforests of Dominical, Costa Rica, Villa de Agua is a work of art and ingenious design. It is the first of five ultra-luxurious vacation rental homes based on the 5 Balinese elements of Water, Earth, Fire, Air and Jungle.
‘The Water House’ is aptly named: Numerous water features grace the eyes and soothe the ears—an infinity edge swimming pool and heated Jacuzzi, lotus ponds, fountains and cascades. To enter the property, one must pass through the outer door and pass over a stone bridge spanning a lotus pond. Ganesha—the ‘remover of obstacles’ stands watch to one side, draped in floral homage.
Villa de Agua spared no expense in its construction. All 12,000 square feet of living space is an immaculate example of Balinese luxury, from the carved marble pediments on the wooden columns to the rattan ceilings. There are four master bedrooms, each cozy and exquisite, with private baths and balconies (the upper master has a garden bath, too!). Both indoor and outdoor living areas provide a variety of serene ambiences—the media room, pool lounge, and pavilion. A stone patio with a Balinese ancestor shrine makes the perfect place for yoga and meditation. Between the orchid garden and the planters, splashes of floral color are everywhere. At sunset, the Pacific Ocean and sky light up with Day-Glo hues.
Virtually every detail and piece of art at Villa de Agua is imported—and has a story. The pebbles in the marble tiling were brought from the local beach, two minutes away. The bas-relief stone art was custom made for Villa de Agua in Bali and imported. Many of the flowering plants and orchids were found right on the property.
Below the main villa, a traditional Balinese guest house takes the capacity up to 12 people. Villa del Lago—aka the ‘Lake House’—is a wonder in itself. Both the villa and its private pool look out over two, large, cascading lotus ponds. Tropical gardens laden with colorful flora surround the ponds and offset the verdant green jungle.
A short interview with Dennis Schrader, designer, reveals some of the artistry:
What were your inspirations for the design and decor of the villa?
"We were inspired by the outdoor living spaces in Bali and the ease of transition from indoor areas to outdoor areas. Covered living spaces allow you to embrace and live in the rainforest canopy but at the same time feel enclosed and protected from the sun and rain."
What is the meaning of water in Balinese culture?
"Water holds a spiritual meaning for the Balinese, to purify, cleanse and to become a better being."
What aspect of the villa are you most proud of?
"The comfort level and the feeling of being cocooned in luxury while having complete access to the rainforest and secluded beaches."
At $2,000 per night—this luxury vacation home is not for everyone. But for those with the rare combination of affluence, an appreciation of fine art, and an adventurous spirit—there is no better place than Villa de Agua.
