Want to Lose Weight? You Might Need to Be Hypnotized

One new diet and exercise program called One Month Madness (OMM), launched this week by Power 20, uses hypnotherapy, along with better sleep, meditation, social support, a low-sugar diet, and exercise to help people lose weight.

OMM launched this month in New York City from Blueprint Health, a business-incubation program which houses health-based tech startups. OMM was created by a cardiologist, a sleep expert, a registered dietitian, and a clinical hypnotherapist.
The team expects dramatic weight loss results through better adherence. "We try to remove the pitfalls," says Chowdhury. "Sleep deprivation, peer pressure, and waning willpower can sabotage diet plans. By helping clients sleep longer, by asking them to do OMM with two other friends, and by using hypnotherapy, we give them a better chance of succeeding."
Hypnosis is a form of relaxation that can resemble sleep. Under hypnosis, people may have a heightened ability to focus without distraction and often have an increased response to suggestions. Hypnotherapy for weight loss has recently enjoyed the support of celebrities like Oprah and Dr. Oz.
"In my eight years of practice I've helped patients lose up to 150 pounds after just six sessions," says clinical hypnotherapist Kelly McLoughlin of Ashland, OR. "Any weight loss program would be accelerated by incorporating hypnosis, so One Month Madness is on the right track."
