The Delray Recovery Center Hosts Complimentary Workshop
Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) August 17, 2013 -- The Delray Recovery Center announced it is hosting a one-day workshop dedicated to addiction treatment. The workshop, facilitated by addiction treatment specialist Lisa Frederiksen, will include the latest brain and addiction research, as well as information on second drinking/drugging and continuing care post-treatment.
The workshop will take place Friday August 30, 2013, from 8:45 AM to 4:45 PM. The workshop will be hosted at the Hyatt Place Delray Beach, in Delray Beach, FL.
“I have known Lisa for a few years and I am big fan of her books. She is a great motivator and a thought-leader in the addiction field. We are thrilled to have her present this workshop and to offer continuing education opportunities to local mental health professionals,” said Michael Herbert, Director of Program Development at The Delray Recovery Center.
The first part of the workshop will give participants an overview of the latest brain and addiction-related science that is changing the face of addiction treatment. This information focuses on the “how” and “why” of addiction treatment, and the benefits of approaching addiction as a chronic, but treatable, brain disease. Frederiksen will discuss the tools available for helping individuals better manage stress and re-wire the brain to support long-term recovery.
The second part of the workshop will address “co-dependents,” secondhand drinking and secondhand drugging. These terms address the person on the receiving end of another person’s drinking or drug abuse.
The third part of the workshop will focus on continuing care, known as the third phase of addiction treatment and recovery. According to Frederiksen, continuing care is often missing from the treatment of addiction, which increases the risk for relapse. Frederiksen says that addiction treatment must be a three-stage disease management program that includes detox, acute care/rehab, and continuing care.
The goal of the Delray Recovery Center’s workshop is to help participants better understand the role of brain development, different risk factors and mental illness in treating co-occurring disorders simultaneously. The program will also help increase participants’ understanding of secondhand drinking and drugging, and the importance of family therapy for addressing these issues and supporting an individual’s long-term recovery.
“I’m looking forward to providing this training on behalf of The Delray Recovery Center. Re-framing the conversations about the various aspects of addiction around the new research provides a wonderful opportunity to develop a science-based common language. In this manner, we can shatter the shame and break the cycles,” said Lisa Frederiksen.
