Impact Investor and Advocate of Sustainable Agriculture, Philippe van den Bossche, Commends Chico College for Providing Students with Hands-On Experience with Organic Farming
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- Philippe van den Bossche, an impact investor and advocate of sustainable agriculture, commends Chico State College for providing its agriculture students with an opportunity to get hands-on experience with organic farming.
According to an August 25, 2013 article published by ChicoER.com, titled, “Students run organic vegetable project at University Farm,” Chico State agriculture students are given the opportunity to get hands-on experience in all aspects of organic farming through its University Farm.
The University Farm is a completely student-run, three acre organic farm located at Chico State. Its mission is to provide education and fresh produce to the Chico State community. Agriculture students are able to get involved either as volunteers or by taking a “directed field class.” The University Farm provides students with the opportunity to “experiment with organic gardening techniques, research innovative gardening and marketing strategies and get hands-on experience in management, organization and working on land.”
Agriculture students are not the only ones reaping the benefits of the University Farm. There are a few contracts in negotiation between the farm and the Chico State Associated Students dining services that would provide “a more direct way to get fresh produce to all students.”
Tina Candelo-Mize, the University Farm’s field manager, says, “The ultimate goal is to get as much of our food into the bellies of students – as many students as possible.”
Philippe van den Bossche, an impact investor and advocate of sustainable agriculture, finds this program to be the perfect opportunity to educate young adults about the benefits of organic farming. “Right now, the growth of the organic farming industry is on the rise. These young college students are tomorrow’s future. Educating them today about the benefits of growing organic produce will only help the organic farming industry as a whole.”
Philippe van den Bossche is an impact entrepreneur and investor and Chairman/ Owner of Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA), a leading organic agricultural and horticultural consulting and manufacturing company located in Middlefield, Ohio. AEA provides consulting services and specialty nutritional products to farms throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. van den Bossche is an advocate for organic farming and agriculture.
