First Private RDS Security System for Concealed Weapon and IED interdiction to Ship to Iraq
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 16, 2013 -- The first commercial application for the new Rogue Detection System (RDS) will be shipped to Iraq this month. Training and demonstrations will take place in Dubai in October.
The RDS, a joint venture between Geometrics, Inc. and Sierra Romeo LLC., is designed for surveillance and interdiction of Person-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (PBIED’s) and concealed weapons. The benefit of this system is that it allows long range surveillance without being detected.
Typically, metal detectors are used at security checkpoints to identify people who have metal objects on their person. While metal detectors are an important component for security screening, the RDS system can be used in conjunction with such metal detectors to greatly increase the area of detection and to capture possible threats without the system itself being detected.
Long queues at security checkpoints have become targets for terrorist attacks and opportunity for an assault by a single person carrying an improvised explosive device (IED) or automatic firearm. The RDS system is intended for use in pedestrian approaches to security screening areas where metal detectors and large crowds tend to form. The RDS can identify persons who may be carrying weapons of mass assault well before they arrive at the crowded area, thereby providing security personnel the opportunity to divert the would-be attacker to a confined screening area or interdiction site. This mode of operation has been adopted by U.S. Government Agencies, who provide security at various military and civilian installations. RDS systems may be deployed inconspicuously and monitored remotely. This technology also works well in the private sector where crowds gather such as stadiums, concert and performance halls and other similar venues
Unlike the traditional pulse-induction EM technology, the RDS does not emit any signals that could be detected by people scouting for electronic security installations near checkpoints and the entrances to secured installations. Therefore, the RDS provides a means of pre-screening large numbers of people for substantial weapons quickly and without the intrusiveness of the conventional metal detector system. The RDS is not intended to replace traditional systems but rather to enhance security at sites where several metal detectors are being used to screen large numbers of people.
