Replay Technologies' freeD Product Set to Make Basketball Debut Over NBA All-Star Weekend
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) February 09, 2014 -- After a successful NFL season, Replay Technologies signature product, freeD™, is making headlines again; this time on the hardwood, with the NBA.
Last week, it was announced by Turner Sports, in partnership with the National Basketball Association, that Turner’s TNT channel would be using the innovative freeD™ technology during the network’s television coverage of the 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend, Feb. 14-16, from the newly named “Smoothie King Center” in New Orleans, LA.
"We are very proud to bring our freeD™ technology to the basketball court,” says Diego Prilusky, Creative Director of Replay Technologies. “Being able to showcase infinite viewing angles of such incredible athletes is something that I have wanted to create for a long time.”
During TNT’s All-Star Weekend, viewers will be able to experience the amazing Matrix-like technology for the first time during a live basketball broadcast at the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, within the State Farm Saturday Night Skills Challenge, as well as during the 63rd annual All-Star Game, Sunday night.
"There is no better stage to introduce freeD™ to the basketball world than the NBA All-Star Weekend,” says Replay Technologies CEO and President, Oren H. Yogev. "We have been working on this project with Turner for over a year now and have decided to feature freeD™ during this All-Star Weekend to give viewers a sense of our technology ahead of the 2014-2015 Season.”
freeD™ technology, or free dimensional video, uses 22 high-speed 5k ultra HD cameras that will be strategically placed throughout New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center to show never-before-seen viewing angles of each basketball goal. In addition, this will be the first time ever a live sports event has been shown using the cutting-edge 5k camera technology. Combined, the cameras capture every angle within each 3-point area, giving viewers a full 360-degree vantage point. Replay Technologies has build similar systems at Yankees Stadium in New York and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
About Replay Technologies
Our vision is to power the next big revolution in video by using our proprietary freeD™ technology to create novel viewing experiences. Ultimately, we believe the viewing experience of most broadcast related events, from sports to news to film, will be ‘freed’ from the limitation of what had been shot by physical cameras, raising both the storytelling possibilities and the user immersion possibilities to whole new levels.
We aim to disrupt the fundamental operating cost structure for broadcasting, cinema and other fields (biomedical, security, etc.) by the implementation of new viewing angles and un-manned cameras where none existed in reality.
