Linfield College Adult Degree Program Announces Recipient of the Alumni Scholarship
McMinnville, OR (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- Janie Marsh of Oregon City, OR has been awarded the Linfield College Adult Degree Program Alumni Scholarship. The award is funded by generous donations from Linfield College's Adult Degree Program alumni and friends.
The fund is in its twentieth year and provides scholarships to online degree students currently enrolled in the ADP. The awards are based on academic merit and financial need and do not require repayment. Scholarships are awarded in fall and spring semesters.
Marsh is currently a senior at Linfield and will graduate in June with the Bachelor of Science degree in the Social and Behavioral Sciences. Marsh is like many adults who aspire to complete their education with a college degree, but who often find the large cost to be prohibitive. Thanks to the ADP’s affordable pricing and student services like the Path to Scholarships® Online Workshops, Marsh and other ADP students have successfully applied for scholarships to fund their degrees.
Marsh overcame early struggles to become the scholarship winner she is today. She describes herself as a “high school dropout” who worked through obstacles to achieve her first educational triumph of graduating with an associate degree from a local community college. Marsh then transferred to Linfield College and attended as a fulltime on-campus student for one year, while working part time. When her employer offered her a fulltime position, she thought it would require her to interrupt her education again. Then she discovered she could pursue her degree online while working by attending Linfield’s online adult degree program.
Marsh says, “At Linfield, I have discovered my life’s passion, and experienced acceptance and success. This experience has broadened my educational and professional horizons tremendously!”
Marsh says that she has learned a great deal from her own struggles, which have made her a much stronger person. She sees her life’s purpose as assisting others in changing their own lives for the better. After graduation with the bachelor’s degree this June, Marsh plans to earn a Master’s degree in the field of Professional Mental Health and Addictions Counseling.
Marsh’s advice for other students who are considering returning to college is: “Just do it! It’s never too late. It’s hard work, but the rewards are tremendous!”
In addition to winning the scholarship, Marsh has an additional joy this spring: she will be graduating with her son, who also completed his degree at Linfield.
