ipConfigure's Orchid VMS: Built to Run Anywhere
Norfolk, Virginia (PRWEB) April 01, 2014 -- ipConfigure Orchid is a revolutionary new IP video management platform that operates on a variety of embedded devices including the Axis Camera Application Platform (ACAP) and many other ARM or MIPS-based embedded platforms. Orchid leverages a light-weight cross-platform architecture that allows it to operate on low cost, lower power devices while delivering the same features and experience offered by Orchid on traditional servers. With an interactive multi-touch user interface, operators can intuitively control and manage surveillance cameras from a web browser interface.
Orchid on embedded devices offers superior performance over traditional VMS architectures. By placing the VMS as close to the camera as possible, unreliable data throughput, vulnerable cable runs, and costly network infrastructure are all mitigated by Orchid's model of reliability through proximity. Additionally, by placing Orchid at the edge, it provides both recording and storage redundancy to cloud- and server-based VMS installations.
With its small memory footprint and modest CPU requirements, Orchid is able to run on a diverse set of devices, ranging from traditional servers, to IP cameras, to network-attached storage appliances, to WAN/broadband devices, and will be on demonstration at the 2014 ISC-West physical security tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada from April 2nd – 4th in the ipConfigure booth #17089.
Orchid support for the AXIS Camera Application Platform (ACAP) offers surveillance system operators the first fully featured VMS in the camera. This removes the need for servers to record and store video by moving these processes inside the camera. With their line of advanced ARTPEC processors and strong partner ecosystem, Axis cameras are ideal for Orchid. “We are excited that ipConfigure was able to leverage the power of the AXIS Camera Application Platform and their experience in enterprise-class VMS to create a compelling all-in-one solution for small system deployments,” said Rob Muehlbauer, business development manager, Application Development Partner Program, Axis Communications, Inc.
Other supported release platforms include Buffalo network-attached storage devices. Ranging from 1 TB to 8 TB capacities, Buffalo provides reliable long-term retention of HD-quality video. “Buffalo is an industry leader in reliable and cost-effective network storage, and combining that with the ipConfigure Orchid VMS makes for an economical, easy-to-use solution,” said Matt Dargis, COO at Buffalo Americas, Inc. “Our partnership with ipConfigure provides integrators and end users with a turnkey, all-in-one solution that is extremely powerful and attractive for small and mid-sized businesses.”
Specialized applications of Orchid, including covert deployment on remote broadband devices, uniquely positions Orchid for the law-enforcement community. “Aware Digital is excited to offer the Orchid platform on its Tactical Device Networking Routers. The Orchid technology will provide our customers with a fully integrated feature rich VMS solution at the edge, reducing the number of devices and overall costs for deployment. Customers will be able to quickly deploy our multi-wan, redundant and video optimized routers with direct attached video storage using the new Orchid platform as a simple software upgrade,” said Joshua Mann, Aware Digital CEO.
Orchid reference binaries running on BeagleBoard and Raspberry Pi development devices are available to OEM partners for evaluation.
