The highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, July 26 between 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm at the Coney Island beach adjacent to the boardwalk. It will feature some of the fittest athletes in the world demonstrating the highest caliber of calisthenics in both freestyle and muscle up competitions.
“The mission of the Urban Fitness League is to promote fit and healthy life through calisthenics and proper diet for everyone. The Urban Fitness League is partnering with the athletes to bring the urban fitness lifestyle to youth across our cities and playgrounds,” said Ben Sturner Founder of the UFL. “The UFL, our athletes, leadership and sponsors are all 100% committed to combatting the inactivity pandemic and obesity by making fitness cool with our events, athlete personalities and no barriers to entry.”

“We are thrilled about the Urban Fitness League Championship event in Coney Island,” said Ryan Garton, Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Fitness League. “Our teams, athletes, sponsors and fans make this an incredible sport, and we’re excited to bring this to more and more fans across the country.”
Competition:
The UFL national championship competition will feature three events testing strength, endurance and creativity. The first event is called “Muscle Up Relay,” where teams of three will compete in a test of raw strength versus the clock. In this highly visual event, competitors pull themselves up beyond a simple chin up and raise above the bar in a straight demonstration of strength. The team completing the most Muscle Ups will be deemed champion.
The second event is a Freestyle competition where individuals will demonstrate their strength, stamina, agility and creativity across several bars and apparatus. All participants will compete in a two-minute knock-out round, and the three athletes with the highest scores will move onto the Championship round. The Freestyle champion will have highest aggregate point total from the two rounds.
In the final event, the women take to the bars to demonstrate their strength and endurance in an event combining squat and pull-up sets. The athlete completing the most sets in one minute will be crowned the ultimate women’s champion.
Music is an important part of the Urban Fitness League and Brooklyn's own legendary DJ NYCE will be performing at the UFL Championship. Every UFL pro athlete will selecting their own music track to play during their performance.
Urban Fitness Roots:
With its roots in Brooklyn, Urban Fitness developed in public parks, playgrounds and outdoor gyms. Various teams from the greater New York area would compete in team and individual events. Using only readily available equipment, Urban Fitness tests athletes’ strength, endurance, overall body fitness and creativity with moves such as “muscle-ups,” “levers,” “typewriters,” “O.A.P.s”, “human flagpole” and many more. The moves are amazing and a true demonstration of what hard work, fitness and dedication can do.
The Urban Fitness movement has also grown globally with teams in China, Brazil, Spain, Australia, Germany and Russia with recent events being televised in Europe on EuroSport. The plan for the UFL is to become the professional league for performance calisthenics in North America with a series of nationally televised events in 2015.
