Dallas-based Park Cities Pet Sitter Announces Participation in the 2014 National Association of Professional Pet Sitters “Presents 4 Pets” Program
(PRWEB) August 20, 2014 -- Park Cities Pet Sitter, Inc. has announced their participation in the 2014 NAPPS Presents 4 Pets supply donation drive that benefits the animal shelter and rescue communities. Presents 4 Pets is a national campaign that coincides with the Humane Society of the United States’ Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, which is observed November 2nd through 8th, 2014.
As part of their participation, Park Cities Pet Sitter plans to ask for pet supply and monetary donations for the Presents 4 Pets drive from their client base, as well as put on a one-day “Stuff the SUV” event on Saturday, September 27th at the Pet Supplies Plus location at 6060 E. Mockingbird Lane in Dallas. Park Cities Pet Sitter participated in Presents 4 Pets for the first time last year, and raised over $4000 worth of pet supply and monetary donations for two charities: the Humane Society of Dallas County and Big Fix for Big D.
Park Cities Pet Sitter chose Duck Team 6 as this year’s recipient charity because they wanted to highlight the plight of street animals in Dallas. Duck Team 6 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is “to reduce the street dog population through capture, placement, and outreach.” Many of the street dogs rescued by Duck Team 6 are mixed or “bully” breeds, and most end up being amazing pets despite their sad histories. In addition to rescuing and finding homes for street dogs, Duck Team 6 also has a Community Outreach program that regularly goes into the neediest communities of Dallas. Duck Team 6 volunteers provide struggling pet owners with pet food and supplies, and work to educate pet owners about the benefits of spaying/neutering their animals, as well as the importance of vaccinations for all pets.
Park Cities Pet Sitter President, Joette White said that Duck Team 6 was an easy choice as this year’s recipient charity for her company’s Presents 4 Pets supply drive. Ms. White said, “Many of my staff have followed the work Duck Team 6 has been doing in the community since they were founded. Like many organizations that work in animal rescue, their volunteers see some incredibly sad situations that Dallas dogs are surviving. But one of the things that really make them stand out as an organization is their sense of humor while performing this challenging work, their expertise and patience in capturing elusive dogs, and their passion for what they are doing. These characteristics have blessed them with some incredibly passionate social media followers, as well as donors and foster families that have allowed them to rescue, rehabilitate and find homes for hundreds of dogs. They haven’t been around for very long, but they have quickly become a well-known and respected group in the Dallas pet community.”
As evidenced by their unique name, Duck Team 6 is clearly not the “average” rescue organization. The story behind the origin of their name is a good example of how Duck Team 6’s founders carry out their organization’s mission. Right after Osama Bin Laden was captured, the “Ducks” were out on a “reconnaissance” mission late one night, and someone remarked that they were like SEAL Team 6, going in after an elusive dog. Another Duck replied that ‘we weren’t nearly as stealthy as the SEALs; we were more like ducks’. And thus, the Duck Team 6 name was born.
Park Cities Pet Sitter’s “Stuff the SUV” event will run from 11am-4pm on Saturday, September 27th at the Pet Supplies Plus at 6060 E. Mockingbird Lane. Donations for Duck Team 6 will be accepted by the general public at that time. About Duck Team 6: DT6 is an all-volunteer group that captures hard-to-catch dogs that have lived their lives as strays. We are not a shelter so we rely on fosters and other rescue organizations to assist us until we can find permanent homes for the dogs we capture. We also provide full veterinary care including spay/neuter, microchips and vaccinations for our “Duck Dogs.” We have an excellent Community Outreach program that collects and delivers dog food and supplies each week to our communities in need.
