UHIN Introduces Complimentary HIPAA Service to Help Members Strengthen Patient Data Security
Salt Lake City, Utah (PRWEB) September 19, 2014 -- Not only do HIPAA security gaps negatively affect consumers and patients, but they also cost the healthcare industry time, money, and hard-earned reputation. The Utah Health Information Network (UHIN) and data security leader SecurityMetrics have partnered to address security challenges with a new program that helps UHIN members meet federal data security regulations and increase the safety of their electronic environments.
As a vulnerability assessment and remediation program, SecurityMetrics HIPAA Onset helps UHIN members identify potential risks to their systems and understand actionable to-dos to make patient information safer. The program was designed for provider organizations with limited technology resources, as well as those with robust IT infrastructures.
“UHIN is pleased to partner with SecurityMetrics to increase security throughout the communication network used by our community,” said Teresa Rivera, President of UHIN, commending the new service. “We believe so strongly that security should be a high priority for all involved in healthcare that we have purchased for our members services to simplify the process of ensuring their own data security.”
“Given the demands of IT security in healthcare, it’s refreshing to find a medical service provider so centered on protecting both member and patient data,” said Russ Stay, VP of Business Operations at SecurityMetrics. “UHIN members who take advantage of HIPAA Onset and other available data security tools will significantly lower their risk of a data breach while simultaneously moving closer to HIPAA compliance.”
HIPAA Onset offers users:
• A HIPAA Breach Protection Checklist of security best practices
• External network vulnerability scans that search for network weaknesses
• A self-assessed HIPAA Risk Analysis to map patient health data and identify vulnerabilities
• Periodic hands-on HIPAA compliance training seminars
• Individualized consulting with a HIPAA security expert
• Discounts on additional in-depth security analysis tools
UHIN members can begin the HIPAA Onset program, or take advantage of discounted HIPAA services, by calling 801-623-5698 or emailing hipaa(at)securitymetrics(dot)com.
