With Xarelto Lawsuits Mounting, Microbial Contamination Leads To Xarelto Recall, The Oliver Law Group P.C. Reports
Chicago IL (PRWEB) November 04, 2014 -- The Xarelto lawsuit attorneys at The Oliver Law Group P.C. report that federal regulators have announced a Xarelto recall for some 13,500 bottles of the medication according to a notice posted on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) website. The recall comes as more than 20 Xarelto lawsuits are currently pending in U.S. courts, all of which allege the blood thinner caused serious episodes of internal bleeding and other life-threatening complications.

Xarelto is used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation. The recall comes as court documents indicate that more than 20 Xarelto lawsuits are currently pending in U.S. courts, all of which allege the blood thinner caused serious episodes of internal bleeding and other life-threatening complications. Earlier this month, a group of Xarelto lawsuit plaintiffs petitioned the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) to create a multidistrict litigation for all federally-filed claims involving similar allegations. Among other things, their petition asserts that thousands of additional filings are likely in the future, as more than 1 million Xarelto prescriptions have been written for the drug since its 2011 U.S. launch. During the same time period, the medication has been implicated in thousands of adverse event reports made to the FDA.

Among other things, all of the Xarelto lawsuits currently pending in U.S. courts accuse the manufacturers of the drug of downplaying information from clinical trials that indicated Xarelto patients were more likely to experience bleeding compared to patients treated with a placebo. Finally, these lawsuits assert that Xarelto was wrongly marketed as an improvement over warfarin, and point out bleeding that occurs with this decades-old blood thinner can be stopped via the administration of vitamin K. There is currently no antidote approved to treat Xarelto bleeding.
