After an extensive national search, Eric Poon, M.D., has been appointed to the system-wide role of Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) for Duke Medicine. Dr. Poon is an innovative and forward thinking physician executive with a proven track record for leveraging IT in support of excellent clinical care and novel biomedical research.
Most recently Dr. Poon served as the Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer for Boston Medical Center (BMC) in Boston, MA, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine.
Dr. Poon has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, and was named as a top 25 Clinical Informaticist by Modern Healthcare. Throughout his career Eric has continued to practice as an internist.
Dr. Poon received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his residency and internship in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA.
