The Ranch Treatment Center in Tennessee Completes Cultural Sensitivity Training to Better Serve Orthodox and Observant Jewish Clients
Nunnelly, TN (PRWEB) January 28, 2014 -- The staff at The Ranch treatment center in Tennessee recently completed a two-day cultural sensitivity training that will enhance its ability to meet the needs of its orthodox Jewish clients. The training was led by Deborah Fox, LCSW, founder and executive director of Magen Yeladim International: Child Safety Institute, and the former director of the Aleinu program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles.
For two days, Ms. Fox met with the entire team at The Ranch, from the housekeeping and maintenance staff to the residential assistants and clinicians, to educate them about the beliefs, customs and needs of orthodox Jewish clients. Some of the issues Ms. Fox addressed during the training include helping clients stay kosher and observe the Sabbath during treatment.
“This training was an incredible effort by The Ranch to understand and work with the orthodox Jewish population,” said Ms. Fox. “From intake through discharge, the entire team has a greater understanding of the Jewish culture and the role each staff member plays in meeting the needs of orthodox Jewish clients who struggle with addictions and emotional health challenges.”
“We are very fortunate to have had Debbie Fox share her knowledge and understanding of the needs of the orthodox Jewish community with The Ranch team,” said Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, Senior Vice President of Clinical Development for Elements Behavioral Health. “The training gave our clinicians a deeper understanding of Jewish family and cultural systems and their role in the recovery process, and provided insights that will benefit the entire staff as well as our clients and their families.”
The cultural sensitivity training is The Ranch’s latest step toward giving orthodox Jewish clients a seamless treatment experience. The Ranch also provides food from a kosher grocery store and meat from a kosher butcher in Nashville, and has kosher food storage facilities, food preparation stations (including designated refrigerators, microwaves and stoves) and cooking utensils. The staff adjusts scheduled activities to allow clients to observe the Sabbath. The Ranch also has cultivated strong ties with rabbis in the local area.
“In line with The Ranch’s commitment to personalized, highly effective treatment, this training enhances our ability to serve orthodox Jewish clients and their families with the highest level of cultural competence,” said Cheryl Brown, Director of Marketing and Outreach Services at The Ranch. “In addition to giving our team a more in-depth understanding of our orthodox Jewish clients’ needs, we gained a real appreciation for why we take the steps we do to accommodate those needs.”
“The Ranch has tremendous sensitivity toward its clients, of all cultures and religions, and tailors treatment to each client’s needs,” said Ms. Fox. “Receiving specialized cultural training is one more way The Ranch creates a comfortable treatment experience for its orthodox Jewish clients while at the same time maintaining its high treatment standards.”
