Allied Environmental Services, Inc. Announces Roll-out of New Pond Sediment Management Service
Lima, Ohio (PRWEB) February 17, 2015 -- In 2010, Allied Environmental Services, Inc. (Allied) was approached by a client to devise and implement an alternative method of removing sediment from an industrial process water impoundment where traditional draining and mechanical removal was not feasible. Allied developed a site-specific solution combining specialized SCUBA diving techniques, vacuum extraction and simple passive de-watering within geotextile containers. The project was completed successfully, and at about half the cost of a traditional dredging and filter press system. The client was ecstatic. Now, having completed multiple similar projects and refining the method, Allied announces it will begin marketing Specialized Sediment Management as one of its core services.
According to Matt Elkins, Allied Technical Services Manager, the unique approach allows for the safe and complete removal of sediments around sensitive equipment without the need to drain a pond or mechanically de-water solids. “This approach also allows for a more detailed pre-assessment of subsurface conditions, including the precise sampling and characterization of sediments,” Elkins stated. “Utilizing the divers’ tactile senses ensures complete capture of sediments and precise depth control. Once de-watered, the solids are easily transported offsite for disposal,” he added.
The specialized sediment removal process is ideal for industrial fire-water and settling ponds, process water impoundments, pump stations and equipment vaults. The service is commonly performed at industrial manufacturing facilities, petroleum refineries, and well field impoundments associated with petroleum prospecting and hydraulic fracturing (i.e. “fracking”).
