Stores and Stripes Program Offers Military Community $1 Online Store, Chance to Launch Successful Business
Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 21, 2015 -- Ecommerce software provider Volusion today announced the launch of its Stores and Stripes program, which empowers members of the military to launch online businesses of their own. Stores and Stripes was created to go beyond incorporating veterans into the workforce by providing the military community a low-risk opportunity to become entrepreneurs. The program, open to active duty US military, veterans, and their spouses, provides a one-year online store for a $1 donation to Operation Homefront.
“With less than 1% of the US population serving in our military at one of the most dangerous times in world history, never has so many owed so much to so few,” said Andrew Jackson, Air Force Veteran and owner of Global One Logistics, LLC. “Owning an online store has provided me the freedom to run my business, support my family, and not only endorse, but truly give back to the troops. Because of the success I’ve found with my online store, I’m very encouraged by the opportunities the Stores and Stripes program opens for our military, veterans, and their spouses.”
Despite recent improvements in the job market, the veteran unemployment rate stood at 5.3% at the end of 2014. Post-9/11 veterans experience a steeper challenge in finding work, facing a 6.9% unemployment rate according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Veterans also face unique obstacles when seeking a job, namely finding work that allows them to apply their skills or offer adequate pay, according to the Veteran Job Retention Survey from Syracuse University.
Because of these challenges, Stores and Stripes was created to change the conversation about veteran and military employment. Instead of just aiming to place members of the military community into the workforce, the program’s goal is to empower participants to become entrepreneurs by establishing online businesses of their own.
Stores and Stripes offers participants a no-risk opportunity to learn about business fundamentals while providing an opportunity to establish a successful online store. The program also gives military spouses the chance to generate supplemental income while their loved one is deployed and upon their return.
“The men and women of our military have done so much to help build our nation, and we want to show our gratitude by helping build their business,” said Clay Olivier, Volusion CEO. “We’re proud to be based in the USA and have seen the benefits of hiring veterans to expand our own organization further. Stores and Stripes is meant to make an even bigger impact within the military community while showing our respect for their honorable service to our great country.”
To be eligible for the Stores and Stripes program, participants must be verified as US active duty military, a veteran, or a military spouse as documented by leading technology partner, SheerID. The program is now open for signups through Independence Day (July 4, 2015). For more information regarding Stores and Stripes, visit: http://www.volusion.com/stores-and-stripes.
