MegaCryption Incorporates Format-Preserving Encryption for Added Security
Naples, FL (PRWEB) April 30, 2015 -- MegaCryption now offers the ability to encrypt data at the field level while preserving the datatype, length, and any special formatting requirements, commonly known as format-preserving encryption (FPE), through its FPE subroutines. As a record-level and file-level cryptography solution, MegaCryption provides a comprehensive approach to encrypting virtually any record and file in your z/OS environment while complementing any communication level encryption process you may already have in place. MegaCryption offers support of the most secure non-proprietary and well-known algorithms available today, ensuring security and compatibility with other standard implementations.
Format-preserving encryption is a specialized type of encryption which came into existence due to privacy requirements, application malfunctions, and data incompatibility when dealing with traditionally encrypted data. Oftentimes, users have the need to access unencrypted record information, yet they do not have the need or authority to see the record in its entirety; certain secret fields or confidential information remain visible in their true form when they should be encrypted. Prior to FPE, attempting to encrypt at the field level while opening the entire record in an application or reporting tool would cause a malfunction, crash, or ABEND due to format incompatibilities. With MegaCryption FPE, organizations have a means of securely encrypting secret data without having it appear as such to external users, all while eliminating application and reporting errors.
MegaCryption FPE works with any data source and any data type, including but not limited to: VSAM; BDAM; sequential files; DB2, IMS, and IDMBS databases; character, packed decimal, and zoned decimal data types; and batch and CICS applications. MegaCryption FPE uses particular encryption alphabets to constrain the output of the encryption operations to only members of the alphabets as specified, ensuring access to those with proper authority and security for those whose PII is in the dataset. Unlike other FPE solutions, MegaCryption FPE requires only core server applications be modified, ensuring you do not have to modify your external reporting, viewing, or testing application programs.
Along with MegaCryption for z/OS, ASPG offers MegaCryption-PC and MegaCryption-IX, the fastest growing encryption tool for file cryptography on Windows, Unix, and Linux computers. MegaCryption-PC, for Windows, and MegaCryption-IX, for Unix and Linux, may be freely distributed for use on Windows, Unix, or Linux systems and are compatible with both OpenPGP and S/MIME cryptography standards.
