“Family on Board” Wins Big at the New York City International Film Festival
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 10, 2015 -- Family on Board won the NYCIFF award for best USA short narrative. The awards for best director in a short film and best lead actor in a short film went to Pogatsia. The NYCIFF announced that it has elected to submit Family on Board to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 2016 Academy Award consideration.
Family on Board tells the tale of Mike Petito (Pogatsia), a family man and biker who receives a questionable prison sentence. On his way to report to jail he reflects on his life and anticipates what lies ahead for him and his young family ... that’s when catastrophe strikes.
Collaborating with Pogatsia on this heartbreaking New York story is four-time Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, two-time Daytime Emmy nominee the late Matthew Cowles, beloved character actor Tony Sirico, who is best known for his work on The Sopranos as Paulie "Walnuts", Gino Cafarelli, Executive Producer Michael Mazzeo and Karina Arroyave – known for her work on television’s 24 and in films such as Academy Award winner Crash, Falling Down and 187.
Upon receiving the award for best USA narrative short Pogatsia thanked the festival and addressed his fellow filmmakers. “We are independent filmmakers, what we do isn’t easy. We do this because we love to. Let’s champion each other and keep making movies!”
Pogatsia spoke on developing a feature version of Family on Board. “Tony Sirico was fantastic in the short and is a big supporter of the project, his role in the feature will be considerably larger and Academy Award winner John Avildsen (Rocky) is interested in directing.” Rocky happens to be among Pogatsia’s favorite films, it was the first movie he saw in a theater and Rocky and Adrian’s date scene was the first scene he performed in an acting class.
