Infocast Hosting First Conference Dedicated to Powering Wearable Devices & the IoT
Woodland Hills, CA (PRWEB) August 27, 2015 -- Infocast is pleased to announce the inaugural Wearables & IoT Summit, scheduled for October 27-29, 2015 in San Jose, CA. The first event dedicated to finding alternative solutions for powering wearable technology, the summit will primarily focus on the void that exists where battery development and energy storage innovation are concerned. Product developers, designers, architects and hardware/firmware system engineers, together with manufacturers and suppliers will meet to discuss the best solutions and latest innovations.
Analysts predict the wearables industry will be worth about $19 billion by the year 2018, up significantly from its estimated 2012 value of $750 million. This projected exponential growth opens the door to a multitude of opportunities, yet also poses an energy problem more stringent, and in need of innovation. If powering solutions don’t soon evolve, consumers are unlikely to adopt wearable technology on a mass scale.
While some solutions do exist in today’s market, major innovations in electro-chemistries and battery architecture are still needed. Also critical, is the overall system design and engineering; which includes reducing the energy demands of individual components like sensors, displays, chips and buses, apps/code, as well as the protocols and connects that pull it all together.
Wearable devices from the Apple Watch and Google Glass, to fitness trackers and medical equipment, all rely on different chargers, and though battery life is improving, each of these devices must be charged regularly to realize their full value. The future of technology is inevitably moving toward more widespread consumer adoption of such devices, as they become ever more integrated into homes, cars, and even clothing, creating a need for a long term solution for powering wearables in order to maximize potential. Summit attendees will have the opportunity discuss problems and concerns with solution providers and researchers, while identifying gaps within the wearables component eco-system.
