Online Teacher Certification Program Now Available in Arkansas
Little Rock, Arkansas (PRWEB) September 04, 2015 -- The American Board is announcing its online teacher certification program in the state of Arkansas. Certification in biology, chemistry, elementary education, English, general science, history, math, and physics will be offered. Opening this program to Arkansas will allow residents of the state interested in teaching a path to certification without going back to school for an additional degree.
Prospective teachers will study online at their self-determined pace and take examinations when they’re ready. The program can be completed in less than one year. Prerequisites for the program include holding a Bachelor’s degree and passing a background check; however, there is no restriction on the type of Bachelor’s degree one can hold to become certified. Some of the tools offered by the program include webinars, practice exams, in-depth study materials, checklists, and refresher courses to help review material. The course cumulates in two exams, conducted at a Pearson Vue testing center. Upon passing both exams, the candidate is certified in his or her chosen area and may begin applying for jobs at public schools. In most cases, the ABCTE certificate enables its holder to be labeled as ‘highly qualified’ in the eyes of the state Department of Education, affecting salary.
Currently offered in 11 other states, the American Board is a non-profit organization established in 2001 by the US Department of Education as an official alternative route to teacher licensure. It focuses on addressing the teacher shortage in rural areas by enabling in-need communities to employ local residents to fill open teaching positions. The program has a 96% pass rate, with candidates frequently securing a teaching position within three months of receiving their certification.
Interested candidates will be able to enroll in the American Board Arkansas program as of September 3rd, 2015. Residents of Arkansas who are interested in teaching as a new career are being directed to the American Board website, http://www.AmericanBoard.org, for further details. A free 7-day trial of the program is being offered to allow potential candidates of the program to see course materials.
