Ralco Presents Ninth Annual Ag Bowl at SMSU
Marshall, MN (PRWEB) September 05, 2015 -- For the ninth consecutive year Ralco is pleased to announce that it is the primary sponsor of Ag Bowl to be held at the Schwan Regional Event Center on the campus of Southwest State University (SMSU) Sept. 12. Ag Bowl is a celebration of agriculture that increases ag awareness prior to and during an SMSU home football game. The event features attractions ranging from bull riding to hay rides with opportunities to explore venues committed to agriculture education. All proceeds are allocated toward scholarships that fund young people who will dedicate their careers to business success in agriculture, environmental science and the food industries.
“All the activities centered around this event help support the next generation of ag leaders. We must invest in this next generation if we are going to produce enough food for a growing world,” said Ralco President Jon Knochenmus. “When we helped start Ag Bowl, the agricultural program at SMSU was just beginning; however, it has grown tremendously over the last nine years through the support and commitment of both the university and the surrounding ag community. Today, SMSU offers six ag majors including the most recent addition of Agriculture Education which is critical for up-and-coming ag leaders.”
During a Spring competition, the FFA Ag Bowl Scholarship Invitational, FFA students vie for the scholarship funds generated prior to and during football game. Last year 350 high school students from 20 FFA chapters came together on the campus of SMSU for the Ag Bowl Scholarship Invitational. The overall winner of the event earned $1,000 and individual winners of the six primary Career Development Events earned a $1,000 scholarship to SMSU. Many other scholarships were also awarded.
“There are jobs and plenty of opportunities for young people in agriculture today and well into the future. Ag Bowl and the Scholarship Invitational open up those opportunities and reward young people who choose agriculture. The demand for food will continue to increase as will the need for technology to meet that demand. The young people at these events will help develop and enhance technologies for years to come,” Knochenmus said.
Ag Bowl begins at 3:30 p.m. with activities for all ages. Pedal tractor pull registration for kids age 4-11 begins at 4:30 p.m. The day is capped off by the SMSU football game versus Bemidji State University starting at 6 p.m.
