FirstGlance Film Festival Brings Zombies, Trekkies, Superheroes and Psychos to Philly
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) October 14, 2015 -- FirstGlance Film Festival, Philadelphia’s Independent Film Festival since 1996, added high concept genre indies to their 2015 lineup at the Franklin Theater in The Franklin Institute, 222 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103. In addition to the engaging and inspiring stories of love, friendship, survival and sacrifice found in the documentaries, romantic comedies and dramas screening at FirstGlance October 23-25th, attendees can also enjoy films that take them to Vulcan, back to the future, and into fantasy worlds. The weekend event also includes themed screening programs, the winner of Tentsquare’s “The Rocky Challenge” film competition, live filmmaker interviews on the red carpet with Ivonna Cadavar from YouToo America TV, a costume contest and networking with filmmakers, cast and crew at after-parties. Audiences vote for the “Best of the Fest” winner.
Filmmakers from the Philadelphia area, across the country and from Turkey, Germany, Australia, France, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Israel, and Canada contributed the 5 feature films, 3 feature documentaries, 3 short documentaries, 31 short films, 2 music videos, 4 web series pilots, and 2 trailers screening at FirstGlance. Included in the official selections for 2015 are films starring Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy) Nellie Bertram (The Office), Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica), Tony Todd (“Candyman”), Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica), Gary Graham (Star Trek: Enterprise), Allie Grant (Suburgatory), Xander Berkeley (The Mentalist, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”), an Academy Award-nominated student film and a Sundance Film Festival selection. FirstGlance is also screening the winner of “The Rocky Challenge,” a competition sponsored by TentSquare, Inc. judged by acting legend Tony Todd (“Candyman,” “Night of the Living Dead”) and Sharon Pinkenson, Executive Director, Greater Philadelphia Film Office. “The Rocky Challenge” gave filmmakers a chance to submit up to 30-second videos in the sci-fi, fantasy or horror genre featuring one of Philadelphia’s most iconic fictional characters, Rocky Balboa and the line “Yo, Adrian!”
Other highlights of FirstGlance include live filmmaker interviews on the red carpet with host Ivonna Cadavar, the raven-haired temptress who haunts, teases, and tantalizes viewers each week on nationally-syndicated "Macabre Theatre," a costume contest at the Saturday, October 24th 8:00 p.m horror screening where the winner is voted on by the audience, and after parties with cast, crew, filmmakers and special invited guests at great bars including Drinker’s Pub, City Tap House at Logan Square, and Cherry Street Tavern beginning around 10:30 p.m. after the last screenings each night.
