Florida Polytechnic University to Hire 70 Full Time Faculty
LAKELAND, Fla. (PRWEB) October 20, 2015 -- Florida Polytechnic University is hiring. The school is actively recruiting new faculty to meet the demands of an increasing student population. As a brand-new institution, having just entered its second academic year, Florida Poly offers faculty the unique opportunity to build a university from scratch and to work in a startup, academic and research environment all in one.
The University expects to hire more than 70 new faculty members during the next two years, seeking candidates who are strong leaders in industry, technology and higher education and who take a hands-on approach to academics. Florida Poly emphasizes core STEM subjects in small class sizes, while giving students opportunities to work on research projects in emerging high-tech concentrations.
“The possibilities are wide open at Florida Poly,” said University President Dr. Randy K. Avent. “Faculty members have the exceptional opportunity to develop a curriculum and campus culture from the ground up. We’re seeking candidates who are inspired to conduct applied research, solve problems and work alongside industry.”
Florida Poly is hiring professors of electrical engineering, computer engineering, logistics and supply chain management, health informatics, mathematics and more. Candidates who are interested in applying can submit resumes online at http://floridapolytechnic.org/faculty-application/. Applications and questions can also be submitted to careers(at)flpoly(dot)org.
Florida Poly opened in August 2014 as the newest member of the State University System of Florida, welcoming an inaugural class of just over 550 students. Current enrollment is 924, and the student population is expected to reach more than 1,200 by the fall of 2016. Faculty recruitment and hiring for upcoming semesters is already underway, and openings exist at a variety of levels including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Full Professor. Salaries are commensurate with experience.
“We are striving to create a unique higher education experience and must have the right faculty to do that,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Ghazi Darkazalli. “Our curriculum is designed to offer students a well-rounded experience by combining academics, applied research, collaboration, and leadership opportunities.”
Current faculty members are working on a number of research projects across a wide range of STEM disciplines, including wearable technology interfaces, hardware and software platform improvements, and renewable energy systems and sustainability.
“It’s a privilege to work for an institution that is shaping both the future of technology and the future of higher education,” said Dr. Christina Drake, Assistant Professor in the Florida Poly College of Engineering. “Students, faculty and industry alike are working in collaboration to cultivate meaningful solutions to current problems and technology ideas for the future. It is a truly unique experience as a technologist and professor."
Florida Poly offers six undergraduate degree programs, two Master’s programs, and 19 concentrations in cutting-edge fields such as machine intelligence, cyber security, nanotechnology and big data analytics.
Florida Poly is located in Lakeland, halfway between Tampa and Orlando, along Florida’s High Tech Corridor, which is home to more than 11,000 high-tech businesses.
