QualityStar Announces Moffitt Cancer Center Expert to Present at Lab Quality Confab 2015
Omaha, NE (PRWEB) October 29, 2015 -- QualityStar, an innovative method for anatomic pathology subspecialist review, announced today that Anthony Magliocco, M.D., Chair of Anatomic Pathology at Moffitt Cancer Center will present at the general sessions of the 9th Annual Lab Quality Confab Process Improvement Institute, as well as answer questions in the QualityStar booth. This annual event will be held November 3-4, 2015, at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr Magliocco will present, “Anatomic Pathology's Quality Journey at Moffitt Cancer Center: Aligning Administration, Lab Leadership and Pathologists to Raise the Quality Bar." This general session is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 10:55 to 11:30 a.m. "This session is a real opportunity to highlight success in the advances of quality measures for Moffitt Cancer Center and provide a framework for others to follow,” said Monique Spence, President of QualityStar.
His presentation will look at the challenges of creating a system to better assess the quality and consistency of diagnoses produced by individual pathologists, the goals being to improve the processes in anatomic pathology so that patient safety is enhanced, and improved diagnostic accuracy contributes to better patient outcomes
Dr. Magliocco will address a series of news stories and headlines which contributed to increased interest by the administration at Moffitt Cancer Center to improve diagnostic accuracy. From this initiative, the lab has taken a leadership role and pathologists have been engaged to identify opportunities to improve quality in ways that lead to better diagnostic accuracy and contribute to improved patient care. Among the quality initiatives underway at Moffitt Cancer Center is a project, employing techniques from QualityStar, to improve concordance in the diagnoses of surgical pathologists on staff. As part of this effort, there is also engagement with pathology groups at community hospitals associated with, and referring patients to Moffitt.
Anthony Magliocco, M.D. focuses his clinical interests on molecular biomarker development for improving cancer treatment. In addition, he has special expertise in breast and gynecological pathology. Finally, Dr. Magliocco has interests in developing approaches for improving the quality of cancer pathology laboratories.
