Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) January 26, 2016 -- SignalSense (http://www.signalsense.com), which is increasing the fidelity and value of security detection using machine learning, today announced that Kurt Kokko has joined the organization as Chief Technology Officer.
Kokko brings 28 years of experience on the customer side of network architecture, operations and security to the creation of a product designed to meet today’s demanding needs for security visibility in enterprise networks.
Most recently, at the Walt Disney Company, Mr. Kokko was responsible for the architecture of network operations and security to support Disney’s transition to the use of private and public cloud infrastructure for application delivery. Prior to that he managed the network engineering team responsible for the architecture, engineering, operations and security of the online content properties. During his eight-year tenure at Disney, Kokko’s technology expertise touched every aspect of the company’s business, including delivery traffic for ESPN, ABC, Parks and Resorts, Disney Shopping, The Disney Channel, the Disney Studios and Disney Interactive.
Prior to Disney, Kokko oversaw the Network Services team at Getty Images. Before Getty, Mr. Kokko owned a consulting firm providing high-level network consulting services to enterprise and telecommunications companies. He also co-founded LightRealm Communications, which developed one of the first virtual machine technologies for Web hosting. LightRealm serviced over 800,000 domains and was purchased in a strategic acquisition.
Meeting the New Enterprise Security Challenges
“The challenges facing those responsible for securing networks have increased exponentially in the last few years -- both from the sophistication of the threats seen, the explosion of agile development and the distribution of applications across varied environments. This is further compounded by the move to public cloud environments, where traditional inspection methods don’t exist,” says Kokko. “The challenges of delivering high fidelity security visibility into these environments will require new types of security tools that are just now being developed. Machine learning and neural networks, combined with new scalable methods of data collection and processing will provide the opportunity to keep up with the pace of growth in these new agile environments. I’m excited about SignalSense and the opportunities to solve the challenges I faced daily on the customer side with new product capabilities.”
Adds Lynn Kasel, SignalSense’s CEO: “Today’s security systems often create a high volume of false positive alerts, and security operations teams are overburdened. This trend is accentuated by growing traffic volumes and increasing complexity of attacks. We are moving toward systems that use machine intelligence to increase the fidelity and value of security detection. Kurt’s experience, expertise and visionary leadership is going to significantly accelerate our efforts in these areas.”
Helping CISOs Make Better Use of Their Existing Enterprise Security Components and Investments
SignalSense, which recently closed a Series Seed Funding Round of $4.5 million that was led by Trilogy Equity Partners (http://www.trilogyequity.com), provides a next-generation enterprise security solution that helps corporate CISOs make much better use of their existing enterprise security components and investments. Indeed, SignalSense patent-pending technology increases the fidelity of detection and reduces the time to detect and remediate threats on networks, by helping quickly determine and prioritize true threats, compromise and anomalies for investigation.
The foundation of the SignalSense approach is an investment in data science that leverages a variety of machine learning methods, including deep learning, and GPU capacity to classify, characterize and profile network traffic. This enhances detection of threat and compromise, saving valuable investigation time for network security administrators.
“In today’s world,” explains Kokko, “many alerts go un-investigated. SecOps groups are tasked with managing high false positive rates, and investigation can be difficult with all the ‘noise’ these cause. SignalSense Threat Analytics differentiates actual threats from false positives and assigns a confidence and urgency to alerts so that SecOps teams can spend more of their time investigating and remediating true threats, rather than false positives.”
