Abiquo 3.8 adds app blueprints, alarms/alerts, SDN Docker monitoring to its hybrid cloud solution
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 17 March 2016 -- Many business are seeking a simple way to enable their workgroups to be more independent from the IT department while retaining corporate governance and IT control. Abiquo’s new features enable the deployment of complex application templates across different infrastructures, without requiring users to adapt the configuration each time. Once deployed, Abiquo users can set up monitoring, alarms and alerts no matter what the physical platform - private cloud, public cloud or Docker hosts.
Version 3.8 of the Abiquo hybrid cloud solution introduces four new major features:
** Simple deployment of complex apps **
With Abiquo 3.8's new "Virtual Appliance Specifications" (or "VApp specs") admins and users can create an application template which can include multiple VMs or Docker containers, networking configuration, firewall and load balancer policies, backup policies, storage tier requirements, anti-affinity needs and even VM/Docker variables and Chef recipes, if needed. Admins can then select which tenant can access each template, control template versions and let them deploy with a click!
The real magic happens when your users want to deploy to a different datacenter. If there's a template missing, the storage tiers are configured differently or they don't have the networking configured yet, it's no problem! Abiquo walks the user through a simple process to choose a similar template, or select a storage tier, then automatically configures the networking needed and creates the application ready to deploy.
** Monitoring, Metrics, Custom Alarms and Alerts - for VMs and Docker Containers **
Building on Abiquo’s capabilities to monitor virtual machines on hypervisors, and in AWS public cloud regions, Abiquo 3.8 adds the ability for users to define their own alarms, based on metrics gathered by Abiquo or on their own custom metrics - or a combination! For example, create an alarm for an e-commerce server based on CPU exceeding 80% for 10 minutes and cart abandons exceeding 50 over the same period. Mix and match as you like! Even combine alarms from multiple VMs or containers to generate an alert - maybe combine an alarm based on high network traffic on a web server with CPU and IOPS on a database server.
** Software Defined Networking with OpenStack Neutron **
Building on existing support for firewall and load balancer configuration in public clouds such as Amazon AWS and Rackspace, Abiquo 3.8 offers support for private cloud firewalls and load balancers using OpenStack Neutron. With a consistent user interface across all cloud types, this makes it easier than ever to manage networking and security. Combined with the new Virtual Appliance Specifications, Abiquo users can now set up the networking and security configuration for their application and deploy anywhere, with Neutron providing support for a wide choice of network devices.
Ian Finlay, COO of Abiquo comments: "As business want to choose the best venue for their applications, they risk building ever more complex environments. Abiquo 3.8 helps them deal with that by having one consistent way to deploy, monitor and manage complex application, no matter what the infrastructure or technology. CIOs can now offer private cloud, public cloud and Docker as services to their business units, while service providers can broaden the range of their offerings without confusing their customers."
