eBid Systems Powering Procurement for Nebraska Utilities
Bainbridge Island, WA (PRWEB) March 17, 2016 -- eBid Systems, a leader in e-sourcing solutions for public agencies, announced that Metropolitan Utilities District of Omaha (M.U.D.) selected eBid Systems to automate their procurement processes. They join Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) and another major utility that rely on eBid Systems to provide open and transparent procurement.
As public owned utilities, they follow the same procurement practices as local governments; they must solicit proposals and quotes for major purchases such as equipment, materials, and construction projects. Managing of construction bids was particularly important to all utilities because of challenges for distributing large document and plan sets. eBid eXchange eliminates manual and expensive document production and distribution by making them easily accessible online. NPPD estimates that the reduction of document costs alone more than offset the investment in eBid eXchange.
In addition to accessing bid documents, suppliers can register at no cost to receive bid notices via email and text message. Increasing participation from local suppliers and providing equal access to bidding opportunities was important for all three Nebraska utilities. “Our experience is that free vendor registration and bid notifications significantly increase participation from local suppliers,” said Keith Jones, President of eBid Systems. “We are thrilled to play a role in improving transparency and the Nebraska local economy by enabling more transparent public procurement,” Jones added.
One Nebraska utility will take advantage of eBid eXchange’s online bid submission capabilities to eliminate the burden of suppliers to produce and deliver hardcopy proposal. Because the bids are sealed, the utility can follow public procurement best practices while providing enhanced convenience to suppliers and efficiency of utility staff. eBid eXchange eliminates manual bid tabulations that are time consuming and error-prone. As a result, eBid eXchange can on average reduce the time to manage bid solicitations by 50 – 70% allowing Nebraska utilities to deliver tangible savings for their resident customers.
