ETA Congratulates the Technician of the Year
Greencastle, IN (PRWEB) April 12, 2016 -- The ETA International Technician of the Year has a true passion for industry, consistently strives for excellence, yearns to learn new troubleshooting techniques and then share his or her working knowledge with others. With this award, ETA recognizes the technician who promotes the integrity of our industry and makes outstanding contributions to the industry with dedication to the highest standards of excellence.
In honor of Norris R. Browne, ETA presents the Technician of the Year award to Joshua D. Copeland, CST, NST, Technical Sergeant, U.S. Air Force, IT Project Manager/Unit Security Manager, 2nd Communications Squadron, Barksdale Air Force Base, LA.
“To be selected from my group of fellow Electronics and Information Technology professionals across the globe is humbling, as my selection also reflects on the hard work and dedication that my fellow Cyberspace Airmen in the 2d Communications Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base have put in to maintain a safe and secure communications network,” Copeland said. “This award now allows me to be a better advocate for ETA International amongst my military peers as I champion the further professionalization of Cyberspace Airmen via certification."
Copeland is a dynamic IT leader with decades of experience leading IT teams and managing IT compliance/security. He has served his country as an active duty member of the United States Air Force since 1998. He has deployments supporting Operation Southern Watch, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
He holds degrees in Logistics Management and Information Systems and multiple certifications covering IT, security, networking, project management and personnel management.
Currently, Copeland leads the Base's Command Cyber Readiness/Compliance Team. This team is responsible for ensuring the security of 8,000 unclassified network devices and 3,000 classified network devices. Further, he oversees the physical security related to the networking equipment supporting both enclaves, ranging from end-point configuration, network switch configuration and policy management. He is also the Senior Inspector General's Wing Inspection Team subject matter expert for cyber compliance on the installation for 9,000 personnel.
He is heavily involved with the community by raising awareness for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). He spearheads the annual base-wide Technology Expo that showcases 30+ exhibitors and attendance of upwards of 400 people. Additionally, he directly works with the local Information Technology community to award $30,000 in scholarships annually to deserving High School Seniors with STEM majors.
The ETA International Norris R. Browne Technician of the Year award is presented to an individual for their outstanding service to electronics technicians. Browne worked hard to assure the professionalism of the independent technician and was president of the National Electronic Association and a service business owner.
