Insight Vacations Journeys to Winterfell, Dorne and Castle Black
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) April 26, 2016 -- Insight Vacations®, the leader in luxury and premium escorted journeys, is giving fans of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” multiple opportunities to explore the countries that served as settings for some of the fantasy series’ scenes and kingdoms. As Season Six premieres, fans can trace the footsteps of their favorite characters on popular itineraries and in a variety of styles.
The “home base” for the series’ production team is in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where many of the large interior sets are located – Winterfell, Castle Black, the High Hall of the Eyrie, the Great Sept of Baelor, and several others were filmed here. While the indoor studios are not open to the public, Ireland was used as the standard filming location for generic scenes portraying the frigid regions of the Seven Kingdoms. Insight guests can explore the Emerald Isle’s wildly rich and enchanting landscapes on “Country Roads of Ireland,” encountering ruined castles, quiet lakes, and legendary characters along the way.
Spain has hosted many “Game of Thrones” sets, and it is suggested that a large portion of Season Six will be filmed in this culturally vibrant country. Seville has been frequently utilized as the setting for Dorne, and the Plaza de Toros, an active bullfighting ring, was the ideal location for Meereen’s infamous fighting pit. Guests on the “Highlights of Spain” tour experience Seville’s distinctive character with the guidance of a Local Expert, who presents the passion and history of this fierce the region with the highlight of a Flamenco show and fiery delectable cuisine.
The stunning country of Iceland was used as the set for the frozen landscapes of the Night’s Watch. The frigid lands beyond the Wall were filmed on actual glaciers in Iceland’s national parks, including the glacier at Snæfellsjökull. This awe-inspiring glacier, as well as its surrounding hills, was used to represent the Fist of the First Men, as well as the unforgiving frozen mounts of the Frostfangs. Known as the Jewel of West Iceland and home to the country’s most famous volcano, guests enjoy a fascinating exploration of the park’s many famous sites on “Natural Wonders of Iceland.”
