SAE International Honors Richard Mihelic with L. Ray Buckendale Lecture Award
WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) October 14, 2016 -- Richard Mihelic, President of Mihelic Vehicle Consulting LLC, was recently honored with the 2016 SAE International L. Ray Buckendale Lecture Award during the SAE 2016 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress, held Oct. 4-6 in Rosemont, Ill.
Established in 1953, this award provides for an annual lecture that deals with automotive ground vehicles for either on- or off-road operation in either commercial or military service. The intent is to provide procedures and data useful in formulating solutions in commercial vehicle design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance. Sponsors of the award include: Cummins, Inc.; Dana Holding Corporation; Eaton Corporation; Meritor, Inc.; and TRW Automotive.
Mihelic has 34 years of experience in product development engineering and project management; including 20 years in commercial vehicle development for Peterbilt aerodynamic vehicles; and 12 years in DOD, NASA and DOE development programs for Lockheed including Trident Missile program, Space Shuttle Life Sciences program, and the Superconducting Super Collider National Laboratory.
He has been an active participant in Truck and Engine Manufacturers (EMA) review and feedback on EPA/NHTSA Green House Gas rules regarding aerodynamics and physical testing, aerodynamics lead for the Peterbilt/Cummins Dept. of Energy SuperTruck program. He provided managing support for SAE International Task Forces on Type II and Type III fuel consumption test protocols and EPA’s SmartWay program.
Mihelic’s product development experiences include full scale drag and mpg vehicle testing, scale wind tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamics. He is an active member of SAE International, TMC and is a consultant to NACFE on vehicle fuel economy and aerodynamic technologies including co-chair, organizer and presenter for four years of COMVEC Aerodynamics tracks. Mihelic also is a board member of the ISEEK Corporation.
